M-400 Hiding in the Trees
This is at Rocky Point Park. Used to be an amusement park but it closed in Jauary 1996 and has been vacant for around two decades but now they've leveled the place and it's open again. They removed all the lights I had know about (I'd gone sneaking around inside in the past) but I got to see these following lights for the first time today. This one has amazingly resisted vandals for 20 years. The photocell is missing, but it seems a lot of lights there were missing the photocells.

I sent the non-profit organization in charge of converting the place into a state park about this light and the four others. We'll see how that goes. I put in information about me and pictures of some of my lights to convince them I'm not a fraud. I didn't give my age though since if they knew I was 17 they might not give my email a second glance. The best part is that it turns out the lights here are all 120V!

Hope you can get it!

Thanks; me too! I'm not holding my breath though. The organization's email address was corrupt so I emailed RI Parks & Recreation. Being at the mercy of the state, I've pretty much given up hope.

Nice find! Who knows what other fixtures may be around the park you haven't found yet

I hope you can get it Smile

I don't think there are any more. I ventured though the entire property between the entrance, exit, main road, and edge where they turned the paved park into a grass field. There's three of these M-400s, two radial waves, and a random utility pole in the woods with a Mv flood and what appears to be an incandescent flood. I couldn't get close to the utility pole though since the brush around it was too thick (and full of thorns). I plan to come back armed with a pair of hedge clippers next time I'm there and I'll trailblaze my own paths through the brush.

In this pic or in the pic below, "A" stands for the utility pole with the two floods. They used to light the tracks for an old ride. "B" is the two M-400s in the picture you thought was a roller coaster. "C" is the M-400 above in the tree. "D" is the radial waves, which are just outside of the pic's frame. This is an outdated aerial shot from several years ago before they converted the paved portions in the top right to grass. The woods have essentially been untouched though.

I guess that may be all of them that are left. I assume they removed those davits already. They all don't seem to be too far from eachother. I wonder if they had footpaths or queue lines where the M400's Radial waves and the flood lights.

Nice place! It would be awesome to go through that place Smile

Nice, hope you can score this, along with the other lights left at the park.

Yeah all the remaining lights are within the same general area. That area was always trees looking at how thick some of the trees are. I'm thinking maybe the amusement park had a section of area where it was just trees and walking paths and stuff. "C" and "A" light up the railroad tracks. There were probably 100 more cobraheads when the park was open though. These five lights are just a drop in the bucket. Yep, good eye, spotting those davits at the bottom on that road. That was the main entrance (one-way). It was lined with 400W MV cobraheads on those davits.

Its a good thing they were higher up the tree. If it was a closer to the ground it probably would have been toast from vandalisers. I guess you can't say the same about all the lights there, going by some of your other pics from this park lol. I also read up on some arson fires there over the years. Are all the davits gone?

These tree-mounted lights are actually lower than the wood pole or davit pole lights. This M-400 is mounted over very thick brush so there's no way to get very close to it. When the park was open, that brush was probably not there.

Yep, there have been a a number of fires, a couple suspicious, others electrical-related (the power was still connected to the park until the mid-2000s, nearly a decade after the park closed). Aside from the fires, the famous Rocky Point Shore Dinner Hall was looted over the years (mostly dinnerware such as silverware, plates, etc) and it wasn't uncommon to find chairs on the ground outside the hall, thrown through the second story windows. The Hall had 400W MV floods along the side of it and probably had really cool lights inside too. I've never been inside it though. By the time it was torn down last summer/fall, the roof had partially caved in.

Yep, all the davits are gone. They made sure to remove them all, probably for scrap. The left the bases on the ones along the entrance road though. The wires coming out and everything (though long disconnected).

Ah, I guess people luckily never bothered to go vandalize it
streetlight98   [May 22, 2015 at 02:32 AM]
Yeah it's just pure luck apparently. Never got a reply from Parks & Rec. Whatever... Not really worth the aggravation trying to get a hold of those goons and not worth the risk of getting arrested for theft and getting a record trying to remove the lights myself.

Still, good luck! Especially if they are 120v.
