Sad F40T12 Vaportight
In a gazebo along the beach in Hudson, Florida. Some of the fixtures were missing entirely. Others were missing the diffusers but had lamps, others had broken diffusers and no lamps, and the one on the second story lookout all had no lamps and no diffusers. These poor things look like they've gone through hell. I wonder if the fixtures still work. i'm sure they do. A couple of the ones with diffusers have T8s so maybe they got new ballasts (or more likely, T8s are being used on a T12 magnetic RS ballast :-( )

Ouch. I supppose Florida is warm enough to use regular T12/T8 lamps outdoors. Over here this would be a F48HO fixture. Razz

LOL Yeah. Even in RI you find regular bi-pin lamps outdoors. They aren't super common but HOs and slimlines are rare here in anything less than 8ft (6ft were semi-common at one time though).

I guess that fixture had to be replaced. Neutral

Yeah I'd probably replace it. I mean, you could sand down the cover and repaint it and get a new diffuser but it's just not worth the effort when there's that much rust on it unless it's a restoration for a vintage piece. This is just a run-of-the-mill strip light lol. It might be cheaper to just replace the strip light and buy a new diffuser and replace the missing latches than to get a whole new fixture. Not sure. As long as the bolts holding the strip light inside the vaportight housing aren't too far gone...

I guess you could restore it after all. Surprised

Yeah if you had the time and patience you could get this going but I would probably just not bother lol. Looks to me like these were vandalized (or possibly a hurricane or something) so I'd probably invest in a new style fixture altogether if I was the owner/contractor for the job. With all the LED craze, I'd probably install some LED canopy lights. Those have pretty thick hard lenses that should withstand rocks being thrown at it and can have tamper-proof screws which prevent tampering and the screws are more secure against wind than the cheapo plastic latches above are. A sad place right here for lighting enthusiasts, but would make a neat project getting them all back up and running. I wonder if they're still powered at night or if the power was disconnected some time ago. Power or no power, it wouldn't do most of these any good. Laughing

Meh, ok.
