M-250R Over Abandoned Section of Road
Man just look at how great that paint looks after all those years! The refractor could use a replacement. Looks like the lamp/Pc was changed recently though. It's a 100w merc (seeing the other 50W HPS M-250R2s on tapered ellipticals on this same road) so it very well could have a fresh lamp though I've never seen it lit at night. That's Interstate 95 up the hill. The side facing this way is southbound (this road is on the west side of I-95)

I wondered how did they do the maintenance on the light fixture with this concrete barrier here Confused
streetlight98   [Jun 22, 2014 at 01:09 AM]
It must have been moved... There's a chainlink fence here right behind the jersey barrier section now too.

Oooh nice find!

Thanks! I just want to sneak down there with a socket wrench and a pair of wire cutters and then take it home in a pick-up truck lol. BTW, there's another one on the other side of I-95 on a dead-end industrial road. The other lights on the road are 400W HPS M-400s so who knows what the other lights were but my guess is that they were also M-250Rs back in the 60s. Over the years, Providence has been upping the wattage on their lights. The mercs were mostly 100W and 175W on side streets but in the 90s HPS conversion they installed a lot of 250W HPS lights, even in (urban) neighborhoods. And now they've been installing 400w HPS lights on a lot of the streets. I think the M-250R i linked in the streetview is 175W though because there are other M-250R2s on tapered ellipticals on this road that are 100W HPS.

This is an LED now.

I'm surprised they remembered to replace this one.
streetlight98   [Jan 28, 2017 at 02:56 PM]
I know, right? I think they'll probably shut off the LED though once they get their hi-tech wireless node system up and going. You can kinda see the LED light here. It's one of those Cree lights that looks like a tennis racket. If you turn the streetview to the left or right you'll see RIDOT had LED'ed the whole length of I-95 too. Basically the whole RIDOT system is LED now. All done in 2016!

The place was photographed 16 times (!!!) by the Google Street View car since 2008.
Looks like they changed the fixtures also between April and August 2012...? Smile
(I mean the multi carriageway above.)
streetlight98   [Jan 28, 2017 at 11:44 PM]
Yeah the streetview cars redo the freeways a lot here lol. The fixtures were changed from HPS to LED in 2016. You can see the September 2015 streetview shows the old HPS lights.

Over here the Streetviews are updated between 1-2 times a year depending on the site of the road. I believe some of the newer Streetviews are from last October.

Here it hasn't been updated since like 2011! Sometimes if you type in a business it takes you to a vacant building, well one that was vacant 6 years ago!
streetlight98   [Feb 02, 2017 at 09:37 PM]
A lot of streetviews here are from 2011 or 2012 but the freeways are updated frequently (which is funny because relatively nothing changes on them; it's the side streets that change!)
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 03, 2017 at 02:44 AM]
Oddly enough, some of our first Streetviews are from 2007 but are blurry and worthless if you're trying to look at anything up close. Then they were updated in 2011-12, but that's still awhile ago as of now. Before I first moved to Fairbanks, I was virtually driving around the area on Streetview to familiarize myself with what was here, I already kinda new my way around the city when I arrived and what was here and recognized things I was only seeing in person for the first time! Laughing
streetlight98   [Feb 03, 2017 at 11:35 AM]
The same is true here. Almost everything was streetviewed in 2007-2009 and was blurry. they redid everything in 2010-2012 and some things were done again in 2015 and 2016 but those streetviews are sporadic. Up in the Ontario area their 2009 streetviews are clear but the ones here are blurry. They must've gotten the new cars first.
joe_347V   [Feb 05, 2017 at 06:34 AM]
Yeah the 2007 Streetviews were blurry (and weren't available until 2014), the 2009 ones from when Streetview first launched here are good so I guess Google tried out the new cars here first or have a different fleet here which kinda makes sense since it seems Streetviews are updated very frequently here.
