there's a radial wave right here in cranston but the reflector is all rotted with holes (it must be ceramic) and it looks abused. Jamestown is mostly incandescent so there are quite a few incandescents there. Apparently the MV changeout from incandescent wasn't really as strong as i though. My uncle's friend who's the electrician who gave me the OV-10 and OVC said that before the 90s HPS takeover there were a lot of incandescent street lights. now a lot of them are gone but there's still a good number of mercs. so maybe when LEDs take over there will still be a good number of HPS fixtures left (and hopefully a good amount of mercs too)
I remember seeing a lot of incandescent radial waves in the Smithfield, RI area when my grandparents took me to my aunt and uncles place up there with their then baby daughter, my cousin. She's now grown and married and soon to be a new mom! They also have a younger son but not sure if he was born yet. Apparently the radial waves were changed to HPS sometime around 1996-97, along with new arms. The new arms are the thin 1 1/4 inch diameter galvanized steel arms, angled. I also remember the Wheeler quarter moon incandescent and mercury lights around some of the back roads in RI. Back in 2005 there was one mercury quarter moon with a protective lens, it was somewhere in southern RI, south of Exeter on a state highway. I have a pic of it somewhere and I wonder if its still there?
Ahh so that's why there are so few MV missouts in Smithfield. I was told Johnston went right from incandescent to HPS too.
My great-aunt lives in Smithfield right near Rte 44 in the Greenville section (near the Apple Valley Mall). It was my great-grandmother's house before she had to go into a nursing home. All the lights in her neighborhood are 50W HPS, either M-250R2s or 113s with a few newer OVZs that NGrid installed in the mid 2000s.
Hmm I didn't know the quartermoons ever had protective lenses but it seems like a good idea since my grandpa always talks about how when he was a kid all the kids on the block would throw rocks at the lights and try to knock out the lamps. hmm. would you know the route number if i listed them? the ones that are south of Exeter are 2, 3, 1A, 91, 216, 112, 110, 108, and 138. There's also US Route 1.
