Central Avenue/ Newport Avenue
The 12-12-12-12 signal was recently added since before there was just a 12-12-12 signal. The four section signal is a R-Y-G-y/g arrow like all the other signals in RI. I read an article on RIDOT's website that they're going to start installing the "Yellow Trap" style signals here. There is one test site that i haven't seen in person, it's on Tiogue Ave at the entrance to Stop & Shop. I'll have to check it out sometime. There have been NO news stories about it at all so I don't know how RIDOT expects people to know what the hell to do. LOL

Not a Yellow trap. it is green to yellow ->. Sad I hate all yellow traps, Mad

So do traffic engineers.....hence why the new signals prevent the yellow trap. There is a learning curve but if they are installed uniformly its not that hard to figure out. Go on green, yield on flashing yellow, and watch the light.

i know the above signal has the Y/G bi-color arrow. Isn't yellow trap the name of the new R-Y-Y-G arrow signal?

Calling the new R Y Y G signals "Yellow Traps" are kind of incorrect. A yellow trap condition is caused with the old green ball versions (Think the old sign--Left turn yield on green ball). If the opposing side had a green arrow that came on at the end of the cycle, your side would have to turn yellow, while the oncoming still had a green. Well, people would assume that both sides were turning yellow and, turn left...and often times get T-boned. The new signals prevent yellow trap by flashing the yellow arrow at all times oncoming has a green light and will only turn solid if both directions are clearing out

Ahh I see what you mean. Around here, both sides go yellow and red before a re-introduced protected left turn, even the side that the protected left turn will be on. I've always wondered why the heck both sides whent red. It only stayed red for a second on the side with the arrow, then it resumed green when the arrow comes on.

Yes ok, Thank you Nick.

We still don't have the flashing yellow arrow turn signals here in Ontario. Most new installs are still inline 4 heads with a bi-colour arrow in the bottom.

@ Joe same here, but apparently RIDOT loves the new flashing yellow signal thought they're still isntalled the rygyg ones. Laughing
