The trusswork and light pole have been there since the 60's too. The pole likely held a OV-25 or M-400, but there was a pole just like this on the other side of the highway with a ballast can, so this could even be a 40s or 50s pole.
Interesting, we only started using the triangular style truss supports in 1999 so I thought they were a relatively new design.
Anyways here's how a 60s MTO install would look like. We used to have a lot of those distinctive rounded corner gantries but more and more are getting replaced each year.
Notice the original 60s truss poles and the mercury Powerlites (B2215 and B2213) still in use in that 1989 pic.
@ Joe; I believe the sign truss is origional to the freeway since the metal looks to be as worn as the pole and i'm almost positive the pole is from the 60s, but I can't be 100% positive since RIDOT seems to have used whatever seemed to be the easiest to get a hold of. Currently, they use big fat poles with big fat round masts instead.
@ Tony; maybe. These look thinner and smaller than the 6-foot tapered elliptical.
