Ooooh a Norelco in Canada Shocked The reason they're rare for you is because Norelco was the US version of Philips (same company) during the 70s and early 80s. Once Philips bought out Westinghouse in 1982, that was pretty much the end of Norelco (the Norelco name wasn't used on lighting stuff after 1984). The reason Philips took so long to catch on in the US was because of supposed copyright infringement with Philco, an electronics company (old vaccum tube radios are another hobby of mine)...

I've never laid eyes on a Norelco lamp in person before before.

Actually Philips only got permission to use the Norelco name was because they bought out Philco in the early 1980s. Before they could only use Norelco since Philips was too close a name to Philco.

Hmm, I didn't know Philips took over Philco, only that there were copyright issues with the name..

The first time i read about Norelco i though it was "Norcleo" and i still call it that and can't seem to break the habbit. Mad Rolling Eyes Laughing I always thought it was an odd name then a watched a video and the person read the etch and said "Norelco" and that's when i realized what an idiot i can be lol. Razz Laughing

When I was younger I thought Sylvania was "Slide" or something. Same with "Warning", I thought it was "Waiting"...or when I thought that the letter "C" did the job of "S"...
Even funnier than that, I used to think some major brand names had nasty words in them...two that stand out in my mind are "@$$late" instead of Allstate or "(...) sun" instead of Capri sun. Laughing

I once called Massachusetts "Massatwo$h!ts" Shocked I was either two or three, got a nice backhand from my grandma and never butchered the state's name again. Laughing

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing you had me laughing out loud there! Do you remember that or have your parents told you the story?
streetlight98   [Feb 23, 2013 at 09:28 PM]
my grandma told me. i'm surprised i don't remember it though! My mom once told me that i always used to get mad at her when we went into a certain shaw's supermarket because it had one of these door decals and i asked her what it said (at the time i couldn't read i guess) and she said that it said "listen to your mother" and i didn't believe her and i got really mad at her i guess. Laughing

What does ITT have to do with 8th grade and 13 year olds? Laughing Maybe I'm having an Andy moment since I just woke up from a nap...
joe_347V   [Feb 24, 2013 at 12:20 AM]
Well...

ITT = In This Thread, basically a summary of what the thread is about.

8th grade and 13 year olds, well read the above comments...they're about the same level of maturity of what 8th graders would talk about in school. xP
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 24, 2013 at 12:23 AM]
Ahh I see...I thought you were referring to ITT/Champion, which later became Norelco. My bad. Embarrassed
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 12:44 AM]

ITT: mass misunderstanding Laughing
joe_347V   [Feb 24, 2013 at 12:52 AM]
Well, to be honest I would like it better if you guys posted less off topic stuff in the forum and in comments. I mean some is ok but when over half the thread is full of off topic jokes it makes you guys and the site look immature.

Alright then...
