Or even MV on reactor ballasts, anyone here know which ballast will make MV last the longest??
streetlight98   [Jan 15, 2012 at 02:45 PM]
I do know MV CWA ballasts aren't very tolerable to dead or missing lamps, while HX reactors will last years with a dead or missing lamp. HX and reactor ballasts have fewer ballast losses as well I believe. I perfer HX and reactor ballasts over CWA.

They also don't tolerate shorted caps that well too so if I had a older CWA ballast with a non protected cap I would change the cap since if the cap blows or shorts the ballast will usually overheat. Shocked

Only time will tell when these LED bulbs would outlast the High Pressure Mercury Vapor bulb Smile

I'm pretty sure that MV lamp, being made in the late 60's, will outlast the LED shown here. If it were a "Regent" mercury lamp - probably not.
A_lights   [Jan 16, 2012 at 01:46 AM]
I will say regent lamps are better then caster and Philips
joe_347V   [Jan 16, 2012 at 03:08 AM]
Hmm out of Caster, Grandlite, Regent, Philips, Sylvania, GE, and Faux Westy whose current MV lamps are the best?
Silverliner14B   [Jan 16, 2012 at 03:13 AM]
Sylvania mercs are the best of the current ones.
streetlight98   [Jan 16, 2012 at 04:28 PM]
I agree with Dave, those Sylvanias are great lamps.
joe_347V   [Jan 16, 2012 at 08:23 PM]
Ahh thanks, it looks like I made a good choice deciding to get a Sylvania for my yardlight.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 16, 2012 at 08:46 PM]
Their color rendering is also alot better from what I've seen.
streetlight98   [Jan 16, 2012 at 09:31 PM]
They Sylvania lamps are a bit pink with the /DX ones. The pink tone sorta annoys me inside, but my skin doesn't look green at all. In fact, it's ALMOST as good as a MH lamp, although MH has better CRI. I have a clear Sylvania 175w merc and it works great too. The only times I DON'T recommend Sylvania to people is about CMH, CFL and LED. Phillips is the best for CMH and LED IMO and CFL is horrid no matter what brand you buy. Laughing
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 16, 2012 at 09:55 PM]
I don't like MH lamps that much since they're way too white.
streetlight98   [Jan 16, 2012 at 10:54 PM]
Too white? Don't you want white light? Razz MH is definetly glarey so I perfer the coated lamps and I also perfer protected lamps as well.
A_lights   [Jan 16, 2012 at 11:10 PM]
MH lamps come in 3,000K in most wattages if being too "white" is a problem , i own a 150W phllips 3,000K coated non-protected probe start medium base lamp , its a cram lamp
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 16, 2012 at 11:18 PM]
I like white light, I just don't care for white white white light. I like metal halide lamps that have a color rendering similar to mercury vapor.
TiCoune66   [Jan 16, 2012 at 11:39 PM]
The CRI is to some extent a very relative characteristic. The colour temperature is in my opinion much more important, as the eye can adjust to a lack of certain colours, but cannot change the general appearance of the light. That's the reason why incandescents still exist today! Many people always preferred the soft light of an incandescent over fluorescents.
streetlight98   [Jan 16, 2012 at 11:43 PM]
I perfer the MH lamps with more blue to them over the intense halogen color of the newer PSMH lamps.
joe_347V   [Jan 17, 2012 at 02:45 AM]
Anyone here try the 4000K CMH lamps, I kinda like them over regular MH they're a pretty good match for /DX mercs imo.

This belongs in Lamp category, not Misc...moving it.
