Stop Crashing Into Me!!
So it seems that this pole in my area seems to be attracting errant cars during the past year. The picture on the left was taken on September 12, 2011 and shows a downed pole with a smashed AEL 113. The pole in the right pic was put up sometime last October and replaced the downed pole in the left pic. This pole however, didn't last even a year as sometime in August (pic taken August 19, 2012) it too was knocked down. This time you see a smashed AEL 115 instead of the 113. Both are FCO and use 100w HPS.

I'll update when the replacement to the replacement pole gets put up.

I got a good one, A fellow co-worker of mine used to work for the DOT. He told me a story on the highway of them replacing a knocked down streetlight pole in the morning that was the result of a car hitting the pole months back. That same day when He was about to leave work for the day, he got paged about a knockdown on the highway. When he arrived, It was the same pole he just put up eariler in the day. Not even 8 hours old. Laughing

Well to say the least, the pole has been replaced again but now has guardrails along the road so hopefully it will never be hit again.

If there's a Durstar on it, it deserves another hit Surprised

LOL, nice job putting a pilon on the tip of the lamp arm, dont want to poke anyone! An octogonal steel signal+lumes pole at an intersection island has been knocked a few times near my house, last time they left the pole and flattened arms lying there all winter. Seems they don't design intersections with lumes mounted on islands anymore here as it's hazardous to more of the roadway when hit. So out current design uses 1 luminaire per pole on each side of a street at an intersection instead which requires double the steel (8 lume poles vs 4 island ones)! I need to use a diagram here...

Update: They finally put up a new pole and strung the wiring this week but the new arm and light have yet to be installed. I wonder if it will be a AEL 115 like the one that came down or are they putting up a Cooper light.

Hmm. Here the arm is already installed on the pole when it comes off the freight car. I guess concrete poles don't come with arms?
Antstar85   [Nov 18, 2012 at 03:15 PM]
we install the arms on our poles at the job site. we then have the guy whos on streetlights for the week come and install the fixture.

I've never seen an actual metal pole installation by NGrid, but i believe the pole is held up by a truck with an arm, it's bolted in place, then another truck on the site (the bucket truck) will go up and install the light while the previous truck is installing the next pole.
