Very nice! In 1982 I had never heard of or seen a compact fluorescent lamp. I first saw a PL lamp in 1987 and was very intrigued. Does this lamp still work?

odd how philips couldn't use their name becuase of Philco yet today there's Philips for electronics and there's Phillips for pharmacy-related things.

IIRC Philips bought out Philco in 81 so they could use the Philips name. When did the Philips name start appearing on lamps? It seems the earliest lamp I've seen on here with Philips on here is from 83 or 84.

@joe, philips has always used the philips name in canada because the restriction only applies to the usa. i have a canadian philips bulb from 1976!

where did they get the idea to use the name norelco? Was norelco a sister company to philip or was it the true philips with just a different name? BTW, today at WalMArt i found a Philips F20T12 with the thin Philips word and sheild logo marked 9M (Dec 1999?) and it wasn't in a sleeve or registered as a product. I was going to stick it in a GE sleeve and buy it like that but my mom wouldn't let me. so i walked up to the check out with the lamp and no sleeve and the guy came over and said that he couldn't sell it to me since it wasn't on the product inventory and he couldn't give it to me for whatever reason so he put it in a carriage with returns and everything so it'll more than likely end up getting thrown out. That really put me in a sour mood for the rest of the day. If only my mom would've let me swap in a GE sleeve. The guy kept trying to tell me that a GE lamp is the exact same thing and that someone must have brought the lamp into the store to compare it and forgot it yet he wouldn't let me have t or even BUY it. My plan was to stick it in a GE sleeve just so that they would at least get payed for it. But my mom was trying to tell me it was stealing, though it's not. It's not like i'm sticking a 17 dollar reveal F20 in a 8 dollar F20CW sleeve. i was going to stick it in a kitchen & Bath sleeve. anways, can you tell i'm aggrevated? lol the lamp looked NOS too.

the name norelco stands for NORth amErican phiLips COorporation, interesting creative name isn't it? btw it sucks about wal-mart, they are likely not allowed to let these out of their hands due to haz-mat regulations on fluorescent lamps at least those lamps are a dime a dozen, you should eventually get one like it at restore for very cheap.

i already have one like it, though it's CW versus 3500K interesting name too.

Too bad about the lamp but at least like Dave said, you'll probably find one at Restore.

The only time I tried to get a lamp from the lamp disposal at a store was the time I saw a 4' powertwist in the bin. I was lucky since the manager let me have the lamp. It turned out to be EOL but I still have it since it looks pretty cool.

yeah i guess so... i love those thin etch philips lamps. the thin etch looks much better than the boldface font they use now IMO.
