Slimline Single-Pin Tubes....no idea on wattage though...most of the older tubes are sylvania with the new replacements being Alto's...i changed out a few of them.
not all students do that,i just volunteered for that,i simply changed a few tubes in the ones that had dead lamps and some trouble shooting to see if the ones that didnt light even with new tubes had dead ballasts or loose wiring.
A lot of those, the ballasts...if the dead lamps have been in for too long, sometimes new lamps won't work for an hour or so, but eventually they will fire up, just leave the new lamps in till lamps fires up!
some lamps initially lit dimly when inserted....then fired up to full brightness a full second later some of them gave a zappp...the ones with dead ballast's were checked for output voltage.
You need to change the lamps as soon as you see a shimmering effect, rectifying lamps really kill the ballasts ! I've seen ballasts die within the 3rd set of lamps since installed when they're left to rectify, it's only a problem on the blue wire side. The thermal protection will fail after many cycles of overheating with a bad lamp. BTW try to keep them from using 60W alto CWs they SUCK! they all seem to go mercury starved early and fry more ballasts then anyother type
one fixture sat lampless for as long as ive been there....then it got relamped with altos that went bad days after they were installed...it sat with dead lamps for a year then when i relamped it only one lamp lit...and we took it out a day later cause the fixture emitted a smell and was pretty warm over the ballast area....i'll be sure to tell them as there are some with striations in them.
Here at my school they use 3 lamp F32T8 toffers in the classrooms and 2 lamp F32T8 wraps in the halls as well as some really old T12 hallway lights left behind thet still work. For replacements, my school uses GE Eco-Lux lamps.
