A Through Bolt for mounting streetlight arms! This is a through bolt to mount streetight arms.. 1. Simply get a same thickness drill bit same size as THIS bolt.... 2. Drill it all the way from one side pole to the other side... 3. Slap that bolt through to the other side 4. The big square washer goes on the opposite side of the pole from where the mounting bracket of an arm will be, then bolt it as far but not tightly so you can HANG up the arm 5. Hang the new arm up from the biggest hole. 6. After hanging the arm up...tighten the bolt! and add smaller sharp bolts to other bolts for assurance it won't fall off! 7. Do the rest! Keywords: Gear

This is a through bolt to mount streetight arms..

A 3/4" x 17" Auger Bit is all you need to drill the hole in the pole for a 5/8" bolt like this.

Do you have to use this specific bolt and washer or can a 5/8" bolt with a hex head and a round washer work too?

The square washer gives more contact area on the pole and most wood pole hardware is 5/8 galvanized steel.

Joe, don't be SQUARE...all the nuts, bolt and washer are SQUARE...except for the rod parts which is all SCREWY! Laughing Now don't be SQUARE and be hip stay with the TREND all linemens use!!!! Razz

Not sure if they are available to the public but we get ours from MACLEAN. Not sure what the cost of these are.

I noticed most mast arm companies don't supply the hardware. I like the single package type deal LOL.

We use the normal pole hardware for mounting brackets, NGRID is the same way.

Antstar85, I need to order hardware for the mast arm i ordered from Lithonia. I looked on Maclean's website and had trouble finding the right ones. The arm i ordered is a 4 foot steel arm for wood poles. I think it needs 1 throughbolt and the two smaller bolts for the bottom. It might need just 2 throughbolts but looking at the picture of the arm on the catalog on Lithonia's website, it looks like 1 throughbolt is needed.

What style arm?

What is the Diameter of the pole you are using? More than likely you will need a 5/8 Galvinized 14" bolt. That is the size bolt I'm using on my setup in my backyard and the size we normally use to Install streetlights at work. You can probably Check out a hardware store or even Home Depot/Lowes and get something similar. You may not get a square head bolt like this but a hexhead bolt will work just fine. Then any additional hole, I would get 4"x1/2" Lag bolts and lag the flanges to the pole. Pre drill a smaller hole than the lag for a easier Install.

If you are able to use MACLEAN, Based on the Diameter of the pole, I'd get something 2" Longer than the diameter of the pole.

The arm is a Lithonia style SMAW cantilever arm.

Nice choice in mounting arms, I really like those style arms. You will need one through bolt and two lags for the lower flanges. I would get a 14" bolt just like you see here and two 4x1/2" lags bolts.

Me too. Cantilever style is my favorite. I like the ones with the bracket for concrete poles. But i ordered the one with the wood pole bracket instead. I might be getting another one of the GE 201SA package deal NEMA heads soon. Maybe i can just use the bolts that come with that.

I have one of these now, I got it when taking some insulators. I can use the through bolt for my streetlight arm but I am not drilling a huge hole in a utility pole I do not own. When I get my new house I will maybe get a post and dig it into the ground to make the arm mount on.

I jsut found a 16" or so thru-bolt in my grandparents' basement- YES, IN A BASEMENT! i'll upload a pic now... Looks liek this but it's considerably longer.

Did you know lithonia arms are actualy manufactured by utility metals and you can order directly through them cuting out he middle man.
