Nice high bay Very Happy

Cool is it yours? Very Happy BTW, are there any single tap 347V ballasts? I only see tri-tap ones online. Do they make tri-tap ballasts with other voltages? My favorite ballasts are the 120X240 ones since those are the two voltages i would use if i were to put my lights into use. I wonder what the price difference is between a 120X240V and a 120/208/240/277V ballast is...

Hey Mike, yeah there are single tap 347V ballasts, but they aren't very commonly used now. Another common tri-tap ballast here is the 120/277/347V model. 120X240V ballasts aren't common in Canada since CWI ballasts are required up here for 240V.

Thanks guys, yes this is mine, yes there are single tap 347V around but not common.I have a 347V single tap 250W MH ballast.

BTW Darren, is that an unprotected MH lamp in an open fixture? You're not afraid of an explosion? Neutral
lite_lover   [Jun 24, 2014 at 02:43 AM]
Yes Mike,it's an unprotected MH lamp,no not really too worried about an explosion.
streetlight98   [Jun 24, 2014 at 03:01 AM]
Ah I was asking because my highbays are open too. I wasn't sure if i i should be concerned about a lamp explosion when i ever mount them at my future house.
lite_lover   [Jun 24, 2014 at 03:10 AM]
I wouldn't be too concerned,I've never had an explosion, an arctube may crack or bulge but I don't think the outer envelope would fail too easily,an explosion may be more of an issue if the fixture receives vibration.
streetlight98   [Jun 24, 2014 at 03:16 AM]
Ah. I heard an explosion is also less likely with a vertical lamp? I know the M-400A2s both had lots of exploded lamp gooey crap mixed with tiny glass shards on the refractors. I got a bunch of cuts on my hands when i had initially washed the refractors out.
lite_lover   [Jun 24, 2014 at 03:22 AM]
Yes true, less chance with vertical lamps.

I've been known to run a non-open-rated lamp in an unprotected setting too, mine is the world's brightest torchere lamp! (highbay upside down in the corner).
lite_lover   [Mar 20, 2015 at 04:31 AM]
That must sure be bright!! Shocked Cool
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Mar 20, 2015 at 04:50 AM]
It IS very bright! Too bright actually. Lights the two adjacent rooms quite well too through their doorways! Laughing

Laughing

But is very loud (ballast) and in most places I'd be afraid of neighbors thinking I was...ahem...growing some...illegal things. (Although it's legal for recreational use in Alaska now). But my next-door neighbor has long since accepted the fact I'm "that" kind of neighbor and isn't fazed by bright lights coming through the windows of my house... Laughing In fact they're the one who gave me my first 8ft slimline fixture Very Happy
