Sears Shoplight, as requested by Mike (Streetlight98).
Hey Mike, here's what the infamous Sears light looks like. It came from a friend's house that was going to be demolished (and since has). It's partially restored but needs a paint job and new sockets and the GE .80 amp Bonusline ballast is pretty tired and has leaked tar from a previous life running 34w GE cool white Watt-Misers. It's rated for 35 watters (the early energy savers) but I'm still not taking any chances and plan to replace this ballast with an Advance one I might be getting that hasn't leaked a tar/PCB mess. This ballast still works though and the Sylvania cool white plus lamps still start out dim on this but warm up in a few minutes.

Oh nice looking fixture! looks like you took this pic a while ago lol.

Awhile ago being like 20 minutes ago! Laughing I tried to photograph it lit but it didn't come out to well, the camera focused on the bright part and not the fixture detail and how it's hung from the unfinished ceiling. It's right above my chest freezer so now I can see in there!

Well, the ballast is nice but I'm not a fan of the angled lampholder look, makes the fixture look cheap.

I guess in this case it was a sign of things to come with the current cheap shoplights! Laughing However, considering that in it's day this was a cheap residential-grade light I'd rather have this than the modern equivalent!
Also I forgot to mention it has RAPID START LAMPS ONLY stamped in the reflector.

Well the preheater in my grandpa's shop's bathroom has angled lampholders but there's no mistaking it's built like a tank. Perhaps it could have been the cheap stuff back in the day but any preheater is prized today!

Same here, this fixture is actually kinda flimsy compared to any 1940s light or anything but still way better than the soda-can thickness fixtures of today.

Well, when I see a fixture with the angled holders, it always makes me think that the manufacturer was too cheap to make a proper full width two lamp fixture. Razz

I must admit, I do prefer the "Striplight" type in particular which have non-angled lampholders. Today I saw some Power Products wraparounds that had almost-sideways sockets and thought of you saying that! Laughing

The full width ones are pretty nice but I think my favourite is the turret industrial, they're still made too.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 08, 2013 at 02:02 AM]
I like those too, but mainly lights with large reflectors are my personal favorite.
streetlight98   [Sep 08, 2013 at 02:19 AM]
what do the turret industrials look like?
joe_347V   [Sep 08, 2013 at 02:29 AM]
Hmm, I don't know, maybe like this? Laughing Razz

WShockedW. Do i need some rest! lol Laughing

Laughing I thought it was funny of you to ask me. Razz
streetlight98   [Sep 08, 2013 at 01:49 PM]
LOL yeah.

Anyways, may favorite style of fluorescent light must be just the basic reflector strip light like i have in my utility room. A standard strip light reflector can attach right onto it. I personally think standard strip lights should be used for flush mount to ceiling and the reflector strips should be suspended. They look better that way IMO.
joe_347V   [Sep 08, 2013 at 08:26 PM]
Yeah, I personally find the reflector lights look good both flush mounted and suspended but the striplight only look good when flush mounted.

The storage room in my schools construction room has something that looks alike to this. Some of the ones that have died in the past were replaced and give off a a redish glow.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 05, 2015 at 10:08 PM]
As for mounting, I have a 2XF96T12 strip suspended and I think it looks fine, though it would be better flushmounted IMO.
