SCE owned clear mercs!
Sorry for the slightly blurry pic but this is the best one I have right now. This is a cluster of 4 mercs on the same circuit, three light the beach itself and one is up on a dead end street right by me. The closest merc here is a 60s grey GE M250R, the one in the back is an early 80s Westinghouse L150 (or last generation OV15). All are wired at 120v. Located near downtown Long Beach, CA

Imagine having a romance with your g/f here at sunset and the clear mercs come to life eh?

Sounds absolutely awesome!!

Nice find! Mercury vapor L-150 and L-250 weren't common. These lights were far more common in HPS.

Weren't the L-150 and 250 designs introduced at a time when HPS was starting to take off?
Silverliner14B   [Nov 01, 2011 at 04:44 AM]
Yep, c. 1979-80, when the boxy OV-15 and OV-25 lumes came out.
streetlight98   [Nov 01, 2011 at 08:38 PM]
Yep. That's why those lights weren't common in MV. i personally like older HPS lights. It's the modern stuff I'm not that all fond of.

I know one 400 watt mercury vapor L-150 ) or could it be an L-400 or the L-4000 (or the last generation OV-400) just 5 min away from my house...I haven't seen it lit for about 2 years....it was working 2 years ago...I think it has been shut off...

If you could get a clear, hi-res photo of this scene, that'd be great. So nice to see clear mercs on a BEACH! (I suppose not so great for the sea turtles, though). Beautiful!

I don't think we have sea turtles in Southern California except southern San Diego. I could be wrong. Taking this shot was very difficult I didnt have a tripod and there was nothing to set the camera on and still get a good view of the lights. I plan to get a brand new camera and a tripod soonish then i will be back here!

There used to be 175 watt clear mercury vapor nema lights in Emerald Isle, NC.

Nice shot. I wish More MV was used around where I lived, you don't see many scenes like this here. Almost everything is HPS.

I wouldn't mind hanging out under the light and chill. xD

I wish Ontario had more MV left too, the closest mercs are 30 minutes away from me.
