M-250A2 on the popular Davit pole
These Davit poles are extremely Popular in HG&E territory. the downtown area is loaded with these poles which are made by HAPCO. this fixture was originally on a wood pole with a 6' tappered eliptical arm but was moved to this davit pole 3 years agao when the intersection was redone. Holyoke always reuses fixtures if they still work instead of just slapping up a new light.

National grid always uses new lights and it kind of bugs me. Even for temporary lights, they'll take down the old ones, put up brand new temporary ones, then put up brand new permanet fixtures when the intersections are done. What a waste. Mad Rolling Eyes

yep NU is same way. I've seen so much good lights just end up in the trash

I have seen some get reused......often I notice that SHA, the MD state lighting reuses some fixtures sometimes for temporary lights....because often I see some different brands or models in a row....there was one I saw was a GE M-250R1 being used as a temporary light!

I have seen mercs get reused when they do a pole renewal!.......if its still working, chances it will work for a long time....just cuz you put up a new one doesn't make it better or longer lasting because the new one COULD be flawed and actually not last long.....

My electric company actually has refurbishing shop that fixes up and reuses some streetlights, getting new ballasts, rewiring, glass cleaning and even repaint!

I wish they would do that here. I'd love a job refurbishing old lights. I always enjoy making things look like new

They rarely reuse fixtures here, I've occasionally noticed some older lumes on the temp lights though.

They just did an intersection over last year near my house and they even took a 1970's M-400A and moved it from a wood pole over to a New HAPCO davit pole.
streetlight98   [Aug 20, 2011 at 10:27 PM]
If they just renew the poles, they keep the old lights though. Even if it's a merc. N-Grid still services mercs even though when i talked to a N-grid lineman he said they're not allowed to.
Antstar85   [Aug 21, 2011 at 01:38 AM]
NU still is allowed to maintain exsisting mercs untill the fixture fails. we still have a bunch of side streets in springfield that are still MV.
streetlight98   [Aug 21, 2011 at 01:52 AM]
We do too, but odly everyone at N-Grid that i talk to says they don't service mercs anymore. I've seen MV fixtures relamped this year to prove that they do!
Antstar85   [Aug 21, 2011 at 01:58 AM]
i guess it depend who is working om the fixture!
streetlight98   [Aug 21, 2011 at 02:08 AM]
yeah, i guess so. but if they service them when they aren't alloed to, then they are at risk of being repremanded
Antstar85   [Aug 21, 2011 at 02:14 AM]
im not sure how grid works but i know at NU we still buy replacement lamps in MV for exsisting fixtures. I know in HG&E territory, all mv have been removed from the system.

They reused an M-400 R2 that was missing the door when they upgraded an intersection from span wire to Poles! You probably already saw my picture. They reused every light at the intersection.
streetlight98   [Aug 24, 2011 at 11:28 PM]
Here if a light looses its door, if it was put up withen the past few years, it will have a M-250R2 door taped on to it. I once saw a 113 with a M-250R2 door taped on it. After a month it was taken down with no replacement.

This light has been Waffled.
