I don't think it was ever meant to, it is to stop rocks.
streetlight98   [Jul 14, 2011 at 08:05 PM]
A rock could still get to it. It's just cheesy wires. A vandal sheild can actually make crooks more determined to break it. Shocked
Form109   [Jul 20, 2011 at 09:24 PM]
nicely made wireguard....and of course its not going to stop a bullet! Shocked

Why the heck do people shoot streetlights? Seriously, my OV-25 (other one) has bullet holes in it (two of them) and it penetrated the reflector AND the housing!

I don't get why people do it.
Form109   [Jan 24, 2012 at 05:29 AM]
who know's what their reasoning is...probably the same people that shoot holes in road signs.

maybe it's because criminals like it dark?
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2012 at 07:21 PM]
That or it's teenagers trying to make a "joke". It seems everything is a "joke". Rolling Eyes
GullWhiz   [Jan 24, 2012 at 07:57 PM]
There are drug dealers who sell drugs in the dark to prevent from getting caught....so that's one of the reasons they do this.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 24, 2012 at 08:11 PM]
That was a waste of time to put a guard like that on this light.
Antstar85   [Jan 24, 2012 at 08:27 PM]
Thats Nothing, We Have These Installed on fixtures in downtown Holyoke.
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2012 at 08:34 PM]
The way I see it, if someone wants to shoot out a street light, they will find a way to do so. Vandal sheilds only make them want to shoot it out more becuase that person is determined to prove that you can't stop him (or her).
Antstar85   [Jan 24, 2012 at 08:36 PM]
i have not seen one get shot out yet here in the city.
GullWhiz   [Jan 24, 2012 at 09:18 PM]
It does happen in Baltimore City and some other areas.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 24, 2012 at 09:37 PM]
I haven't see any shot out in New Kensington or Arnold PA and those are really bad areas.
joe_347V   [Jan 24, 2012 at 09:44 PM]
I've haven't any shot out lights in the Toronto area, even in the sketchier neighbourhoods.
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2012 at 10:53 PM]
I've never seen lights shot out either. Nor have i seen lights with wire guards or vandal shields around here.
GullWhiz   [Jan 24, 2012 at 11:16 PM]
By the way the top you see is a General Electric shorting cap!
gailgrove   [Jan 24, 2012 at 11:18 PM]
Hey Jace I have a question, does GE still make photocells?
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2012 at 11:23 PM]
I think they're made by ALR now.
Antstar85   [Jan 24, 2012 at 11:31 PM]
I've gone to a few lights that have been shot out in Springfield. They are usually on the side streets.
A_lights   [Jan 24, 2012 at 11:46 PM]
Here its Detroit that has some shot out, mostly MV there and even some old old teardrops
the light in this pictures also appers to have wires in through the slipfiter
