Series incandescent, down to its final days
The last fixture in a row of series-wired incandescent acorn lights lit at night. By the end of the year, the series wiring will be replaced and Lumec LED FCO decorative fixtures of daylight colour on much higher poles will be replacing these in this nice old neighborhood. I'm very sad to see these go, as they are the last in Washington State, but the poles, fixtures and wiring are from the 1920's and are in very bad shape and not really safe anymore, and I guess "restoration" isn't in the cards.

It is sad to see the series incandescent fixture bygone to the classic era of street lighting Sad

It's a good thing you took a picture of them before they were gone! You should blow up this picture and have it framed!

I actually do have one of these photos framed! (a daytime shot)

Too bad.

At least this posttop is one of the few survivers to make it to 21st centry!!!

The final days are over! There are new poles of the same height and new HPS luminaries of the same style - thank goodness. And - they appear to be running off the series regulator - so I assume the wiring was not changed and HPS series ballasts were used. Better choice than the 20' tall modern LED FCO acorns they had previously proposed...but CMH lamps would have been a better choice.

Do they still make series HPS ballasts? What do those look like?
streetlight98   [Oct 29, 2012 at 10:03 PM]
Yes, GE offers the M-250A2 in series HPS. I havn't a clue what they look like though.

Well, here's a shot of a 250w MV series M-250A2 so I imagine the HPS version is more or less the same thing with a ignitor added.

Yeah i saw that on ebay. Those are huge wires and a lot of paper around the ballast coils!!!
