Mercury Vapor Madness.
Beautiful, ain't it? All of these lights lighting the road (Except for that yellow HPS mixed in) are all Mercury Vapor.

All in GE fixtures. Some M-400 Split doors I think.. M-400 R3's, And others.

The HPS ones that are mixed in are M-250-R2's though. With glass refractors.

Taken in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Aside from the grainy pic...this is an AWESOME picture you have taken!

My mom's camera is taking grainy pics now.. How can I make it to where it isn't grainy anymore?
GullWhiz   [May 28, 2011 at 03:57 AM]
Make ISO setting lower.....but it may make blurred pics if your hand is shakey....

I think it's a very nice pic too aside from the grain.

Taking night pics is hard though imo, you have to find the ISO that gives the least amount of grain while preventing blur especially if you don't have a tripod with you.

beautiful!

I take challenge using the lowest ISO and without a tripod...I have to find a FLAT platform, sometimes a pole depending on the situation. I have thought about creating a magnetic bottom to attach to camera so I can stick it on some metal platform like steel where it can help STAY STILL while taking a pic!

A fun challenge guys!

I rarely take a pic while in the car.....so for a great night shot...DON'T be inside a car!

That's why I was on the side of the road for this pic. Cause at night.. It's hard taking a clear night shot when vibrating.
GullWhiz   [May 29, 2011 at 02:40 AM]
exactly...sometimes I turn off the car and get out and put the camera AGAINST my car to prevent vibrations and (hopefully it wasn't windy) then that's when you get a good pic at low ISO! Plus at low ISO...you can get a cool car passing effect! Like in the GoL banner above which I took myself!
LilCinnamon   [May 29, 2011 at 04:05 AM]
Well my car was in a parking spot since I was next to a parking lot. Did you take the pic in the banner against your car?
GullWhiz   [May 29, 2011 at 04:09 AM]
No....I had the camera against a tree I believe....but the car was in a parking lot but I put my camera against a tree
LilCinnamon   [May 29, 2011 at 06:04 AM]
Oh yeah, in this pic I had my camera against a sign pole. Made it more stable.

Another tip that can help......set the camera on autoshutter....put the camera on a nice flat surface or in a platform in a desired angle (as long it doesn't fall off) and have autoshutter do the job whole you are NOT touching camera and there's no wind....it should do good.....that's why I'm considering making a maganetic bottom...so I can perhaps use my car to take a pic, even put it on my side of the car if desired....(of course not while driving!)

Wow. Any of y'all live in Dallas? If so, there's this place called Huffhines Park that has most of its 1960's M400s and other MV and MH fixtures with MV bulbs in them. All 400 watts too. They are well maintained.
