Yes, that is the diagnostic mode cycle. I have seen such digital power meter behaves like this.

All of the ones in this area will flash between 888888 and the total number of KWHs used.

Oh, my meter is a spinning disc meter made by GE. The faster the metal disc inside the watthour meter spins, the more $$$ on the bill.

We had one of those until about two years ago, then we got these ones.

My meter on my house is from 2003, the date of the house.

My house finally got one of those "smart meters". The house had the original 1956 Westinghouse meter, so I was really bummed to see it go.
I asked the guy if I could keep the original meter but he said no. Sad

The original meter on my house was a early 80s Westinghouse but they changed it three years ago to a "smart meter", I was a bit bummed to see it go. Confused

How do you exactly trust those non-spinning ones? Those electronic pieces inside could malfunction and screw up your bills!
gailgrove   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:45 AM]
Well the dials could get stuck too (although that would benefit you Laughing ) I pretty sure they are trust worthy enough, but what they do with them like the on/off peak rates --- Rolling Eyes

Rolling Eyes I don't like the peak rates that come with them.
