Mercury galore!
Here's a street in Cerritos full of these beauties. Turns out they are GE M250A2s, 250w MH, but have all been relamped with /DX mercury lamps. Cerritos has lots of mercury decorative streetlights in its central business area. This street is sadly now infected with one HPS AE 315.

nice to see those MV's but HPS isn't Really an infection.

You don't mind HPS?!
gailgrove   [Jan 10, 2011 at 07:13 PM]
Hey I don't mind HPS either, really its what I've grown up with, sure I would like MV better (actually I would like a mix of MV, HPS, LPS, MH, PSMH, CMH, the best) Laughing
DimBulb   [Jan 10, 2011 at 08:11 PM]
Cool shot! Nuthin beats MV but I gotta admit I'm starting to like LPS. I have a feeling, in the future when the HPS lights start going away, I'm gonna miss em.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of HPS but I'd rather have it over LED streetlights though I still like mercury vapor better than other light sources.

@silverliner HPS doesn't bother me as much as it used to,though i still dislike the color i'd take it over LED junk anyday,to me Mercury Vapor is still king when it comes to outdoor lighting, not the most efficent but a good balance of life and color when properly designed.

I don't mind HPS that much too but I would much rather see MV, MH or CMH used instead. Of course I like HPS over the new LEDs that are starting to pop up here.
GullWhiz   [Jan 11, 2011 at 01:53 PM]
HPS makes you feel warmer during winter....but they are terrible during rainy weather....harder to see the markings of roads....
gailgrove   [Jan 11, 2011 at 07:34 PM]
HPS will still cut through rain and snow better then MV or MH Wink
Silverliner14B   [Jan 11, 2011 at 07:51 PM]
Have you ever driven under mercs in rain? I have done it plenty of times and they are not too bad in rain. Anyway yeah HPS is getting old lol. I have two HPS streetlights and may add a couple more later on.
DimBulb   [Jan 11, 2011 at 10:51 PM]
I've driven under HPS in the fog on the freeway, YIKES!!! Like a yellow wall!!!! Shocked
Silverliner14B   [Jan 11, 2011 at 11:06 PM]
Yep mercs are LESS glary than HPS in the kind of storms we get in California! I am not biased, I saw it.
Form109   [Jan 11, 2011 at 11:21 PM]
i've noticed higher Visability with MV in all situations reguardless of wattage and what not....i can see things alot clearer and brighter under 175 Watt MV than i can under 200-250 Watt HPS....in towns lit mainly with MV on the large streets 400 watt MV is so much better than the 250 Watt HPS in Visability, especially clear lamps.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 12, 2011 at 12:10 AM]
It's usually easier to see under mercury vapor streetlights during bad weather especially when it's snowing. High pressure sodium streetlights just make you feel disoriented and it's hard to see with so much intense glare that they produce.
streetlight98   [Feb 26, 2011 at 10:38 PM]
I grew up with HPS. It doesn't bother me really. No metal halide on puplic roads, but a few strings of MV. I have to say, HPS Higmasts and floodlights DO bother me, but on roads it doesn't. I'd prefer MH for parking, but HPS is tolerable. For a back yard or so, I'd want MV or coated MH (coated for glare reduction).
Form109   [Feb 26, 2011 at 11:07 PM]
around me MH on public roads is pretty scarce...none whatsoever here in tyler.
Silverliner14B   [Feb 26, 2011 at 11:26 PM]
There are some MH lights on public streets in the LA area, especially Santa Monica, Whittier, Pasadena and others.
streetlight98   [Feb 27, 2011 at 02:47 PM]
There are MH post tops as well as MV post tops in Downtown Providence. They're still MV because no one wants to maintain those in downtown Providence. Neutral
