Now THAT'S an REAL LED fixture! Very Happy Man, you should show AEL or somthing, so they'll start doing this. I'll pay for it if it looks good and works. Very Happy

The only problem is that is it only puts out about as much light as a 50 watt HPS so this won't light up anything more than a tiny residential road (even here the lowest wattage used is 70) so this is more or less useless Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Nov 03, 2010 at 10:34 PM]
We used to use 50 for residential wattages, but we're slowly changing to 100w. To me, I think 50w is useless for styreet lighting
gailgrove   [Nov 03, 2010 at 10:41 PM]
I would have to agree, 70 watts works but we have a lot of them and if its decorative lighting its 100 watts

Most of our residential streets use 100w but some use 70w instead with shorter poles.

50 watt HPS lights aren't even on Duquesne Light's Tariff though there's some in Etna PA that still exist.

Where I live there are 50w HPS cobraheads all over town.

I think a real LED cobrahead would be more like the cobraheads designed today.
Like...
Where the ballast goes, the circuitry for the LED lamps go, and all that equipment. And in the reflector, there would be a mogul base socket like the normal reflectors, and then you would screw in an LED lamp with lots of LED's in them (Kind of like a LED lamp you find at a store, but without the circuitry needed for it in the lamp, instead its in the Cobrahead where the ballast usually is.) And then you can have a drop lense and an FCO too, it will be a normal Cobrahead but instead an an HID ballast, there will be LED circuitry and instead of an HID lamp, there will be a lamp with multiple LEDs on it, not flat, but circlular around the lamp.
streetlight98   [Jan 19, 2011 at 09:04 PM]
I was thinking that myself, a good design, but the lamp would have to be rather large to fit the amount of LEDs needed for aquadate light.
gailgrove   [Jan 19, 2011 at 09:06 PM]
I was thinking about it, actually thats where I stopped when I concluded it was a horrible idea.
LilCinnamon   [Jan 19, 2011 at 10:32 PM]
Actually, LEDs are much more efficient than HID, or any other light source. All you would have to do is up the wattage of the LED diodes and you don't need more LED diodes to make the thing brighter. As you notice with the LED traffic signals, the Dialight Non-pixelated ones are about the same bright as the pixelated ones, actually a bit BRIGHTER than the pixelated, and they have only about 4-8 LEDs in them instead of 100-150 like the pixelated ones do. So it is possible to make an LED cobrahead like that.
gailgrove   [Jan 20, 2011 at 07:21 PM]
Uh no, CMH, HPS and LPS are all more efficient than LED, there is no light source that can beat 200 lumen's per watt Confused
streetlight98   [Jan 20, 2011 at 10:06 PM]
Can CMH lamps be run on existing pulse metal halide systems?
Form109   [Jan 20, 2011 at 10:23 PM]
not sure on that one,i would think not.
GullWhiz   [Jan 21, 2011 at 01:52 AM]
Yes CMH works on MH pulse start they are exactly the same and uses same ballast......but not probe start though.....
streetlight98   [Jan 21, 2011 at 03:06 PM]
I thought so. I just didn't know if CMH could be used on magnetic PMH ballasts.
tpirman1982   [Oct 05, 2011 at 06:42 PM]
Where'd you get the LED panel?
joe_347V   [Oct 05, 2011 at 06:45 PM]
I think he got it from the streetlighting contractor.
