Old OVX vs New OVX.
Featuring an OVZ.

So bottom one is the new OVX I acquired over a year ago in Branson at Lloyd's electric supply, and the top one was one of the OVXes I acquired from Boulder. This shows you the differences between both, the door style, the hinge, not really the latch but the older one has a short latch and the newer one (you can see it on the OVZ) has a long latch.

Which OVX do you like better? And don't bother judging by the refractor, I want you to judge by the fixture itself. Which version OVX do you like better? Old or new?

I like the newer one. Hinge is less likely to snap and the bigger latch is easier to grab (especially for lineman with their gloves on). My NOS 1995 OVX has the short latch. The short latch looks OK on the OVZ but it gets lost in the OVX's huge door lol. I like the larger latch better on all the lights though. The OV-15s had HUGE latches.

Nice comparison! Agreed, I like they revised it. Didn't realize the top housing is a bit straighter at the seam too.
And the new OVX's here for the past two years went back to the old glass refractor. We have a reference pole that gets hit enough times that it always showcases the latest in OVX technology Laughing

Not sure what is up with the jagged paint on the edge of your new OVX top housing thhough

The jaggedness is in the casting. The end of the casting is rough and uneven, typical of most cobraheads. On the older one I suppose they took the time to file it down.

Nice comparison, I've heard that Cooper redesigned the OVX but it's nice to see a comparison between the two. Unfortunately my area is now 90% LED so I don't get to see the new OVXs get hit often lol.

The OVZ was redesigned around 2006 as well but the differences are even more subtle. Just the hinge design and the longer latch I think. The very early OVZ from the late 90s/very early 2000s is a little thinner than the current OVZ though. It looked more like the OVC but a little longer to hold 250W gear. For 250W lamps the terminal block was still mounted to the slipfitter, but for lower wattages it was mounted to the top housing. The newer OVZ always has the terminal block on the housing.
