Redesigned improved version of my Fluorecent Machine!
What do you guys think now?

I still am seeking a few different types of fluorescent fixtures for this large thing.....One thing I am having a hard time is finding some kind of powergroove ballast or fixture for it!

Thanks Darren!

I forgot to mention...this whole thing can rotate via "Lazy Susan" which is two pieces of metal plate with ball bearings in it, it rotates very easily but the cord is still a problem....does anyone have any electrical advice to so I can spin it freely without actually moving the cord and that it allows rotation or something? Thanks!

Credits to Dave Lay for the idea of the Lazy Susan Part!

Find a dead vacuum cleaner with a retractable cord. Then remove the cord rewinder mechanism and dismantle it to remove the rewinder spring ( note this spring is a very long and springy item, be careful) and reassemble it. Use as the top section and the cord can rotate freely, power being applied via the 2 slip rings and brushes of the cord retractor. Spin away!

hmmmmmm smart smart...but I need grounding wire....too....any other ideas?

Could you connect your ground through the "Lazy Susan" as it's all metal?

Cool project! Where did you get the powergroove lamp? Razz

For the ideas for rotating cords and all....I would like to hear more options first.......before doing anything....

FGS I got the lamp from someone who lives in New Jersey

Nice setup, I see you added some more lights on your machine. If you decide to use the rotating cord idea, how about adding a low rpm motor on the base so that it rotates like a display.
GullWhiz   [Apr 17, 2010 at 08:49 PM]
I have ACTUALLY thought of that man!

Awesome setup!!!! Hmmm, I've seen rotating Christmas tree stands with grounded outlets for lights. I got one new about 10 years ago, don't have it anymore tho. I think mine played music too!!!! Laughing

Somehow I gotta get this figured out...

Hey if it Rotates youll need a Way of Maintain Power to the Fixtures....Like Collector Rings on Rotating Sirens.
GullWhiz   [Apr 27, 2010 at 11:05 AM]
I know, we were talking about that above.......

How Much does it weigh Anyway?....if you do decide to add a motor to rotate it...it'll need adequate power and torque.
GullWhiz   [Jul 15, 2011 at 01:51 PM]
I took this thing apart...it was taking up room and pretty HEAVY!
streetlight98   [Nov 15, 2011 at 11:35 PM]
For rotating the cord, if you move the cord to the top in the very center, you can still rotate the lazy susan without even unplugging the light. Idea
GullWhiz   [Nov 16, 2011 at 02:41 AM]
No, that's actually bad....because it would twist the wire, and as it overtwists, it will be damaged and spark
DimBulb   [Nov 16, 2011 at 03:33 AM]
The rotating Christmas Tree stand I mentioned above also had rotating outlets for lights.
I think the stand rotated about 2 rpm but I'm not sure.
Form109   [Nov 16, 2011 at 03:54 AM]
you should find some sort of Rotating contact....like the one's used in some Electromechanical sirens.
joe_347V   [Nov 16, 2011 at 04:46 AM]
Yeah one of these slip rings would be good on the fluorescent machine.
FGS   [Nov 28, 2011 at 12:38 AM]
Devonte - I know what mechanism you're talking about. But sirens are where the sounds come from. The lights would be called either lightbars or beacons. Here's one that's still made. PDF file in the link.

It's a shame you took it apart Jace. It looked awesome! Crying or Very sad
