GTE Sylvania 175w DX Cleartop Mercury Vapour
Here's a Sylvania 175W cleartop MV lamp like the one in Darren's collection. I found this one new sitting on the shelf of a Home Hardware store. I think this lamp dates to around March 1981 (Code SR 003).

Great find Joseph! Cool I also have a 250W version of this clear top as well.

Thanks Darren. Smile

So this is the NOS one you mentioned?
joe_347V   [Jul 01, 2013 at 10:28 PM]
Yep it is, Cost me something close to 25 bucks too.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 02, 2013 at 12:31 AM]
Even more expensive than the cheap modern ones that are like $15-20...at least in the US...
BTW pardon my total ignorance but to they accept the American dollar in Canada? Is it worth something similar?
joe_347V   [Jul 02, 2013 at 03:26 AM]
Well, it's well worth it since it was a NOS cleartop Razz . Normal mercs sell for around $15-20 here too.

Some larger companies will accept USD but often only up to $10. Both are worth very close to each other now.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 02, 2013 at 03:53 AM]
Wow, only $10? Wow! I never knew that!
Even for $25 that lamp was a score! Can't wait to see your latest (175w Sylvania?) although starting day after tomorrow I may very well be absent from LG and GOL until the end of September or so...

Well in that case here's a sneak peek of my latest find, yes I managed to find yet another merc lamp. Shocked

1kW Philips /DX Cool

WOW!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked Very nice! Is it NOS?
joe_347V   [Jul 02, 2013 at 04:10 AM]
Yep, NOS from March 2002. Glad I finally managed to find one of these suckers. Shown here warming up on a 1kW MH ballast.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 02, 2013 at 04:15 AM]
Do you have a 1KW ballast or is this a pic from an eBay listing or something?
joe_347V   [Jul 02, 2013 at 04:19 AM]
Huh? It's my pic of course and yes I have a 1kW ballast.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 02, 2013 at 04:22 AM]
Oh, cool! I need to find a 1000w MH ballast for the ones I have...and try my 1Kw HPS ballast...
joe_347V   [Jul 02, 2013 at 05:32 AM]
I would prowl eBay for a cheap one and have it shipped to you house in CA. Shipping to AK would be pretty expensive.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Aug 30, 2013 at 04:41 AM]
Yeah, and down there I have the ReStore, etc. at my disposal as well...I saw a 250w MH highbay there that's identical to the 400w ones I have!
joe_347V   [Aug 30, 2013 at 05:16 AM]
Restore can really surprise you sometimes.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Aug 30, 2013 at 05:28 AM]
I agree! They also have all kinds of cool non-lighting stuff! (And I'm of the DIY-remodel type so that's a plus for me!)
joe_347V   [Aug 30, 2013 at 05:34 AM]
I believe the ones here often get surplus/overstock/clearance stuff from electrical and lighting companies which explains the HID lamps and streetlights. Cool
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Aug 30, 2013 at 04:02 PM]
That sure makes sense...and estate sales, etc. could be where the old fluorescent lamps come from.
joe_347V   [Aug 30, 2013 at 10:53 PM]
I don't think Estate sales really donate lamps to Restore....
