125w Mercury Lamp Tester/Table Lamp
My latest creation. I wired up the 100w potted MH ballast for 125w mercury lamps (100w lamps will work in a pinch but they are overdriven on this ballast). The cover is a upside down range outlet junction box with the socket mounted in out of the knockouts. I guess to be a real table lamp, it needs a shade...maybe a spare yardlight bucket?

Lamp is a Philips HPL-N 125w merc, looks almost identical to a /DX when lit up.

Very cool! Would a regular lamp shade work or would that be a fire hazard? I'm thinking you could make a floor lamp like this, but the ballast would need to be at the base otherwise it'd be too top-heavy.
Is that a Westy Silverliner ad I see in the background on the wall? And what wattage/phosphor is that Lifeguard lamp?

It'd probably be a fire hazard unless the shade was from a 150w+ rated lamp. A floor lamp would be pretty easy but you'll need to widen the base too to make it more stable.

You'll have to guess for the Lifeguard and the Ad...

I would say use a glass shade but i think it looks cool with the lamp exposed.

I'm going to guess a 400w MV OV-25 Silverliner and a 175w cleartop /DX then.

nope that light is the OV-15 (the OV-25's litte brother). the OV-15 has a trapaziod shaped lens while the OV-25 has a rounded lens. I personally prefer the OV-15...

Yeah the ad's a OV-15, as for the lamp...it's a 175w clear merc.
