GE SKYGARD unit pack.
I had purchased this a while back, I personaly think its pretty neat. This one is 150 watt HPS 120 volts with a FPOLC control. I might accualy install this on the longer arm on my pole someday. I also have a 175 watt MV unit pack I could use it on with a clear lamp. That would be cool.

Nice, you could also make a mini highbay with the reflector too.

Shocked

Cool fixture. Cool

Thanks, I havent seen any of these in service in the tristate area or anywhere els for that mater. Shoot I might have the only one in at least a 50 mile radius. Laughing

Nice fixture George! I've seen these installed up in NH (70 and 100W HPS) and they distribute the light just as far as a bucket refractor NEMA but with no glare. They pretty much are highbay reflectors that were retooled for use with NEMA heads lol. with a round reflector though you can only get Type V distribution though. Most NEMA heads are type V anyways though...

I always thought 150W HPS was rather bright for a yardblaster or bucket NEMA. the FCO NEMA would be a much better option.

Yea 150 watt HPS is extremely bright for a yardblaster, but with the SKYGARD even when you look strieght into th reflector its rather dim because of the way its disigned. If anything goes wrong with the nema I have up I may put this one up. Or even if the lamp goes bad I'll just retrofit it with the SKYGARD reflector and clear lamp.

AEL makes the series 11 NEMA all the way up to 250w HPS. 150w is already a glarebomb, can't imagine what 250w is like.

I can't imagine there are actually any 250W HPS NEMA heads out there lol. That's crazy they offer that. Laughing They did offer 250W MV and those were used, but not too common. They never made 400W MV bucket NEMAs though. The closest thing would be a teardrop fixture with a remote 400W MV ballast with just the lamp in the head. I've seen pictures of those. Pretty cool looking.

If I ever get the money I would like to order one, but it would probably be crazy expensive.

It would have an HX ballast and be NPF too. Would be a rare ballast. Very few NPF HX ballasts out there for medium wattage lamps.
ZarlogH46   [Aug 14, 2017 at 05:03 PM]
Would it have to be a 240v only ballast? Also, before AEL discontinued metal halide on the series 11, they offered it all the way up to 250w PSMH. Any idea what kind of ballast it would have used?
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2017 at 12:13 AM]
HX ballasts are autotranformers so for 250W HPS, it would be any voltage besides 240V. A 240V NPF 250W HPS ballast would be a single coil reactor ballast. Just like MV ballasts. For 240V you can use the single coil reactor but for any other voltage you need an autotransformer. The 250W PSMH probably would have used an HX/autotranformer too.

Thanks for educating me a bit lol. Were probe-start metal halide HX ballasts ever made? A few years ago I saw a 175w metal halide NEMA (the tag was entirely red and it appeared to have a probe-start lamp in it) but it didn't appear to have a capacitor when I looked up in it. Someone on LG (Wattmaster) told me they are going to order a 250w 11 NEMA with an HX ballast today, and they are going to order it with a 4-way acrylic or glass refractor.

Yep HX ballasts are made for all HID lamps 400W and less (back in the early days of HID they were even in 1000W MV!). They're very unpopular for 400W MV, 200-400W HPS, or any MH (except OEM). CWA provides better regulation when the voltage dips. MH lamps are sensitive to voltage drop so on an HX they might randomly go out and do a hot restrike if the voltage dips too much. And MH has a LOONG restrike time so I think that's why CWA ballasts are pretty much all you can find for replacement MH ballasts.
