[Gone] CGE and Crouse Hinds Type M
Here's a couple of older signals heads still in use. The facing one is the fairly common CGE signal while the one facing left is a pretty rare 12" Crouse Hinds type M. I believe they saw some use in Toronto in the 60s but only a few handful still remain.

The 12" Crouse Hinds type M has a pretty distinctive latch (they were sorta like the bail latches on the GEs) but I believe they had problems keeping the door tightly shut.

Both have received LED retrofits in 2008 or so.

Ah nice you got a picture of it Cool Razz The visors look like an Eagle mark IV's visors

Thanks! Yeah I believe the Mark IVs have similar visors. Another thing I like about the setup is the classic double guy signal mast instead of the modern single member mast. Cool

yeah double guys are awesome. Smile

I wish the double guys were still a common set up still. In my city we are down to our last one. We lost the other 2 a few months ago to road widening Sad

Same here, Markham, North York, and Scarborough still have some left but they're getting replaced here and there.

If this was on the 401 then its gone.

Ahh, I guess they finally took it down then. I knew it was only a matter of time once that new pole with the Fortrans went up. Neutral

Yeah it seems MTO is reconstructing the intersections at the on and off ramps. I see Polefabs with Fortran 12-12-12's AE 125's, OVF's,OVY's, or I see AEL 125 sag lens. They did it on the 427 last year and I guess the 401 was this year

Bad news. Both signals got replaced by Fortran's. Toronto's remaining CGES are dwindling because they want all the signals to have the shiny backplates. In late 2015 these signals both the CGE and Crouse hinds got new back plates!!! Then the hanger cge got a plumbized fortran and the crouse hind got Fortraned too.Bright siDE? The double guy arm is still in use

Dang, that was one of the last Crouse Hinds signals left in Toronto. I'm surprised they bothered to replace the backplate since it was up for replacement or the fact that they kept the old pole.

I was expecting they would put in a new octogonal pole instead of keeping the Polefab and double guy. I have a feeling the Polefab might be from the late 60s when the 401 collectors opened.
