Ihave to say, once some improvements are made and cost goes down, I may consider LED as an alternative.
Silverliner14B   [Apr 23, 2011 at 08:27 PM]
You will have a choice of three light sources: CFL, Halogen and LED. There's always talk that LEDs will take 90% of the lighting market but professionals (engineers who design lamps) keep telling me they don't believe it. We will see I suppose.
streetlight98   [Apr 23, 2011 at 08:43 PM]
90% of residential maybe. Definenatly not commercial as LEDs just aren't bright enough of tough enough.
GullWhiz   [Apr 23, 2011 at 08:45 PM]
Well for me, I thought the brightness was GREAT, the color was actually good, but not as close to incandescent as this GE CFL I have but I must say it seems much brighter than the GE one! Probably because it spreads out MORE light instead of being more directional....so I was rather impressed with it for the quality of the light, the spread out of the light, how it lit.

Failure rate? I donno....but even in the olden days, Westinghouse had it's own quirks Wink

And to streetlight98....actually LED is much more common in commercials as of now! My college has a big big art studio room LIT entirely with LEDs! They do rather well for the purpose! Also my local supermarket, has a bunch of LEDs in use for the veggies and fruit aisles, and the frozen aisles....

The biggest problem with LEDs is cost. Even at $10 the Utilitech LEDs still aren't selling at Lowes. The industry is trying to reduce costs through improved manufacturing processes. Some say LEDs will cost $2-4 apiece someday.
GullWhiz   [Apr 23, 2011 at 09:27 PM]
Well it was exactly the same sistuation for CFL back in the early 90s!!!!!!!!!!!
streetlight98   [Apr 23, 2011 at 09:36 PM]
All LEDs are worth is about $15 max, they just want huge profits, so they sell them at a higher price. Confused
GullWhiz   [Apr 23, 2011 at 11:32 PM]
I wekt back to the store, apparently, its not a sale price, but a permanet price for this specific one........
streetlight98   [Apr 23, 2011 at 11:33 PM]
Mad Confused Neutral Sad Oh well.
GullWhiz   [Apr 24, 2011 at 12:29 AM]
@Streetlights98 No...That's actually even better! Meaning it's a reduced permanent price! Meaning it will not be increased again, it will stay at 9.98 bucks!!! Smile

Hmm I'll have to see if they have this at the local Lowe's, I noticed that the Canadian stores sometimes have different products than the US stores.
streetlight98   [Apr 24, 2011 at 02:34 PM]
Oh, I misunderstood you Jace. That is good. I thought you meant that it was priced at the other 100% price. I'll get some then. Very Happy I just got a $15 Lowe's giftcard for Easter.
GullWhiz   [Apr 24, 2011 at 02:41 PM]
well if you can get BETTER lamps...(the more priced ones) thats better...
streetlight98   [Apr 25, 2011 at 07:53 PM]
I need three (for my bedroom) so I'll buy these as to use the least amount of my own money as possible. Can you show a pic of it out of the box, so I can see its design?
joe_347V   [May 01, 2011 at 04:11 AM]
Went to my local Lowe's today, and they didn't have it even in the section with the LED lamps. Must be a US only thing like those MH security lights that's also not sold here.
GullWhiz   [Oct 16, 2011 at 11:45 PM]
Want to let you all know that I have used 3 of those lamps daily in my fan....and they are still working GREAT and still bright!
streetlight98   [Oct 17, 2011 at 12:01 AM]
Mine are still nice and bright too. They are used plenty as well. I swear one of them flickers once in a while, but you can't tell which one by looking at the lamp (the room gets slightly darker for a about a second but it's not noticable when lookign right at the light and it only does it arond twice a week.) These are a great buy for LED testing. I will buy some of those Phillips lamps when the $$$ goes down.
GullWhiz   [Oct 17, 2011 at 12:30 AM]
It probably flickers every time your mom turns on vacuum or the dryer or you using drill or anything that uses lots of power when started.....same for mine.....and it is more likely to do it if your light is powered by a dimmer...
streetlight98   [Oct 17, 2011 at 12:33 AM]
All the switches in my house are toggle switches. i know what you mean when all the lights will flicker when a large appliance in energized, but it's only one lamp and only for half of that time...... The lights in my hose flicker when the central air system kicks in.
Antstar85   [Oct 17, 2011 at 12:45 AM]
At the Home Depot here in West Springfield, MA, they have the 40 watt equivalent lamps for $6.99. I have already converted my entire house to these and the Mrs. and I couldn't be any happier with the quality of light. Although, she whishes I could change my OVG to LED, but thats alot to ask for. Wink
