I've only ever seen this kind of light in Palatine and Arlington Heights, IL. No idea what it is. It's HPS, though.

Don't forget Northbrook, there's a LOT of them in Northbrook, Glenview and Niles and in that area.......There's a VERY LONG row of those in Milwaukee road starting right here and south......keep going then you will see a few blocks with of Chicago lights....then it goes back to those oddballs which I STILL wonder who makes them!

I've never seen a light like this before, interesting offset ballast case too.

They have probably been around since the 80's or 90's, but I've never seen them outside of the locations Jace and I pointed out. No idea who makes them. Maybe it's a local company?

It may be a Cook County lights? It must be County lights? I have seen them mostly in Cook county, but not outside of Cook County or in Chicago either......

They mostly are found on traffic light intersections, some major roads (not highways)

There are other designs similar to those but different such as those right here, those also had more silver color body

I have even seen those EXACT poles and fixtures on RESIDENTIAL ENTRANCES!!!! They were taller than the concrete poles too!!!! Best bet, is county lights.......

You may be right. I have never seen these outside of Cook County. Still wonder who made them, though.

They're designed to fry the gulls that land on them! Laughing
streetlight98   [Nov 01, 2011 at 09:47 PM]
They come with a non-stick surface too so gull poo won't stick. Laughing

The fixture in the pic is HPS. I drove by it last night.

I recently saw a picture in a local newspaper which had one of these lights in it. The picture was dated 1968.

Can you show us the picture any chance or find it online of the picture? That would be great!
