HPS retrofit BU/HOR, made in Germany, it does have a probe start, maybe for HPS with bad or no ignitors. I got this at the ReStore in Montclair w/ Dave.
Some Euopean HPS type Metal Halide Lamps of 250 watts and 400 watts have a Starting Resistor/Electrode, it maybe to strike trhe lamp quicker especially in Cold enviroments, it you have a look atthe main and Starting Electrodes you will see a Bi Metal strip, this shorts out the Starting Electode by closing and connecting it to the main electrode which eliminates the problems when restriking a HOT Lamp which can destroy the Lamp

That's what our Philips MH probe start has.....a little two metal strip thing....and I have some dead probe start Philps MH ones and I tried one on HPS ballast....the ignitor would strike and cause the strips to expand thus disconnecting the starting resister probe....interesting design....good question here....is this lamp made for European HPS ballast or American HPS ballast......the European HPS lamps uses higher operating voltage. I have a 70 watt European HPS and it won't fire up properly on an American 70 watt HPS ballast so I used a 100 watt pulse start MH ballast to operate the European HPS lamp (I don't have 70 watt pulse start MH ballast.....it works!
Thats the difference with the US HPS lamp which has a 52v arctube for the 35, 50, 70w Lamps, where the European HPS Lamp has the 85/90v for the 35, 50 70w HPS Lamps, 100v arc tube for the 100 and 150w HPS lamp, this is due to the US line voltage being 110/120 volts were in Europe the Line Voltage is 220/240 volts.
Out of Interest the European 35w, 50w, 70w, 100w, 150w HPS Lamps will safely run happy on the US 35w, 50w, 100w, 150w Metal Halide Gear as the Lamp Voltage Currents are the same
I forgot also to mention the US 1000w Discharge Lamps are not compatable for European Gear, unless it's the older High Voltage Ballasts Lamps 9280/440v Supplies) where the US HID Lamps run at about 245 to 260 volts, 4 to 4.5 amps, depending on the Lamp the UK/Euro HID Lamps run at 120 to 140 volts and 8.3 to 10.6 amps except for the GE 1000w Sport Light Lamp and the old Thorn 1000w MBI + MBI/F Lamps can be used on both US and European MH Ballasts
