Sylvania GTE 2XF40T12 wraparound fixtures from 12/91
Nice find from the recycle centre. I grabbed these yesterday, along with an old CGE ballast from 09/66, 8 photocontrols, some more F20s, a few CFLs to take apart and a GE /WW circline!

Both fixtures work, although I removed the ballast in one of the fixtures to keep it in my collection. It got replaced by a Philips ballast. The interesting thing about the original alliance Gold Label ballasts is they've been made by Canadian General Electric in 11/91!

Nice finds, what type of photocontrols did you get?
TiCoune66   [Nov 06, 2010 at 02:17 AM]
It's the common 120V Precision thermal photocontrol, with a gray housing. There was also a gray Paragon photocontrol, but I didn't take it because it was flooded and was badly rusted inside.

The others look fine, I didn't test them yet, I will probably do it tomorrow. Out of the 8 there's one that is fairly damaged. I'm probably going to salvage the cadmium-sulfide eye if it's still good.

I pulled down 4 of these as well as a dropped ceiling today, all four where scrapped Razz

You're sure they weren't troffers? But I've alreadu seen wraparounds on dropped ceilings....

Did you save the ballasts?

@Niall, you happen to remember what make and date the ballasts were?
gailgrove   [Mar 13, 2011 at 01:00 PM]
Yep they where wraparounds mounted in a rather disturbing way, they where screwed through the tiles into a few scraps of wood above the tile, I only had to pull on them hard enough and they two screws would come out then I disconnected the wires. The ballasts had been leaking a lot and the labels where gone so I have no idea who the manufacture was, needless to say I didn't keep them either. This was also at the street car museum I volunteer at (with 20+ street lights in storage that may be awaiting the same fate (not if I can help it though) Razz

Shocked You have a pic of the streetlights, Niall

I'm going to get some soon, they are at the Halton County Radial Railway (you may of heard of us) Ironically in a street car Razz thats also the same place where this M250R is. By the looks of it in the next year or two the whole museum will be cleaned up and a lot of stuff will be going including likely all of the lights, literally there where tons of lights I found a cast Form 400 tons of gumballs and tons of other lights, I was speechless when I came across them too, we also have more then 20 1KW MH sports lighters.
