Nice, Clamshells used to common until the early 90's here from what I could tell from the historical pics. They also seem to have left the remote ballast cans on some poles too. There's only one clamshell that I know of that's still lighting a street but that's going to be removed soon in order to widen the road.
Hey, I think they use just Standard Quartz Metal Halide lamps but the majority of the fixtures are pulse start so converting them over just requires a lamp change.
As to how old they are I'm not exactly sure because I've heard they were either retrofitted from incandescent to MH or had the head replaced with a MH one. I've uploaded a couple pics of them in my gallery here.
