[Gone] Powerlite B2215 Here's a old Powerlite light that looks like a bigger version of the B2217. There is only a few of these still lighting a street here in Ontario but some older parking lots still have MV ones in use. This one is on Hwy. 85 in Waterloo which still for the most part resembles how a urban freeway in Ontario looked back in the 70s. There used to be be a lot of these along with its bigger brother, the B2213 on Hwy. 401 but they were all wiped out by HPS cobras and highmast lighting in the early 90s. Its a 6ft arm, the MTO (Ministry of Transport Ontario) used these for years and they tend to over do things.

Yep a 6 ft luminaire truss used from the mid-late 60s to the early-mid 90s for freeway lighting. I've always had a liking to these arms for some reason. The pictured one looks like a 60s-70s style though, and yeah MTO tends to over do things.

Now they use 8' tapered e arms or highmast lights.

Yeah kind of like this which I'm pretty sure the MTO was responsible for.

Same with here where they used highmast on a arterial road. They also put pole bases on a bridge that was lit with highmast once.

You know I actually wonder if MTO chose to use truss arms back in the 60s because they wanted to use a arm that would offer a greater margin of safety with the heavier lumes they used back then.

Parts of the 401 used B2213s after the addition of express/collector lanes in the 60s...not exactly what I call a light lume.

Truss arms were also "decorative"too. Decorative in a simple way.

Yeah but I don't normally associate MTO with being aesthetically inclined when designing stuff.
