Nice! Yeah anything marked "G-E" instead of "G.E." or "GE" is really old. Not sure exactly when they stopped using the "G-E" shorthand but I'm pretty sure it was before the 70s.
@Darren, Restore here is fairly hit or miss IMO. I've found some of my best lighting scores there and I've also found a bunch of LEDs and CFLs lol. I have however found that the more unorganized a Restore is, the higher the chance I'll score something good.
@Mike, I didn't notice that subtle change until you mentioned it lol. Good to know that G-E is really old.
Unfortunately the ReStore here is quite well organized now since moving to a larger location lol, I had better luck scoring goodies at the old store. The last time I was there a couple weeks ago, they had a 70W MH post top fixture still in the box missing the top canopy for $60.00 lol.
I agree. the less organized ones seem to have better stuff. My local restore is actually a repurposed split-level house. The ground floor has the check-out desk and also has ceramic tiles, sink tops, cabinets, and large appliances. The basement has commercial building supplies, toilets, fluorescent fixtures, and light bulbs. It's also got various electrical supplies and some miscellaneous furniture (mostly dining room tables). Half a story up from the ground floor is the furniture department, with beds, hope chests, night stands, coffee tables, you name it. Mostly antique furniture that's in crappy condition and sells for big bucks too. Then, another half story up (the floor over the ground floor) they have residential stuff like box fans, chandeliers, jelly jar porch lights, miscellaneous hardware, wooden rocking chairs, VCRs, radios, DVD players, old videogames, etc. I've even seen old TVs from time to time. I stick to mainly the basement but I do always quickly browse the top floor since I've found some smaller fluorescents up there before and I've seen some table lamps with vintage lamps or LEDs in them. Sometimes I take the bulbs out of the table lamps and just buy the bulbs for 25 cents used lol.
Yeah, I also found former Restores that had a lot of good stuff dwindle after they move to a new location or organize. Pricing here varies widely though, depending on the store I've seen stuff like HID fixtures range from less than $10 to almost $200.
I always found the RI Restore quite interesting since it's a repurposed house. The Restores here are usually either regular strip mall stores or former warehouses. I know one that was a purpose built Restore though.
