So many lights that can't even fit in the dumpster! O_O
This pic is from Joe Maurath Jr. from 2010 when he visited the local utility's scrapyard. So wasteful! Arms in good condition, fully intact and reusable lights! So sad to see all these good lights treated as useless trash.

Yeah it is wasteful. When I went to LCEC and got the OVF and OVC, the guy I talked to said that most of the time when they go out to service a streetlight, they just replace the whole luminaire. He said the cobraheads have like a 2 year warranty. So he said it comes out being cheaper to just replace the whole cobrahead instead of servicing it. That's why around here, it is VERY rare to see a old streetlight. almost all cobraheads where I live are new cause they all get replaced all the time.

We use GEs here and they come with I believe a 5 year warrenty. So if one fails, they just ship out a replacement.

Hmm. Well if you ever come to Cape Coral, Florida, the oldest streetlights you'll see are like 113's or old Crouse-Hinds OVC's. That's pretty much it. You'll see LOTS of new 115's, M250R2's, OVH's, 125's, M400's, and OVF's. Those are the cobraheads they replace old ones with.

Wow. Shocked We still have 1940's incandescents in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

Well AELs come with a 6 year warranty, I get the feeling that happens here as well sometimes, depending on the crew.

Here, Edison has a policy that street lights over 15 years old are to be replaced whenever servicing is needed, but they still sometimes relamp 30 year old fixtures. Some of the oldest lights are M250As and M400As from the 60s, mostly HPS now with 80s powr/doors.

I've never understood policies like that. I mean, why waste your money on new equippement when the old equippement does the job just as well if not better. Confused There are still some AE 113 in my neighborhood installed in the 90's and I wouldn't be surprised if a few had the origional lamps and PCs in them.

Seems like a stupid policy, here new lights are never replaced unless they fail, but anything that's not an OVX, OVZ, 115 or 125 (so Powerlites, Crouse-Hinds and Westinghouses) are liable to be randomly be replaced, it depends on the crew it seems. Confused

Rolling Eyes I think we have a new policy that says a light and arm must be changed if the pole is changed and new lights must br FCO.
