Title: A weekly or monthly comic for the website?
Post by: Vince on October 13, 2012, 03:13:00 PM
I don't think I told anyone here before, but in my personal life things got a little rock n' roll this year. First my electrical class was nearing its end and I possibly had to move out anytime. It ends up I got a job VERY close to my home so I'm safe for now!

But also my parents are divorcing. They actually waited I finished all my studies before telling me but it was a sorta long date decision. Anyway... Long story short, we're selling the house so my workshop and all the future projects I planned are going bye-bye, at least temporarily for a few years... The apartment life is waiting me next spring, oh well!  :-\

So, what am I up to with this topic? Well, since almost any form of electrical and lighting project will be impossible to make for me when I'm in an apartment, I definitely need to find something else to do! One idea I had in mind for a while was to create a comic for the website, with lighting jokes or covering news about lighting or something like that.

I never lost my love of drawing since the day I could actually handle a pencil in kindergarten (or probably before), I drew in my notebooks at school until at least 14, so I think I should exploit what could be a hidden talent, who knows!  ;D

So I'm gonna be asking you guys: What do you think of this idea? Do you have ideas for the first issues if I ever start that comic? Like subjects, format, possible characters? I remember that many of us had animal-like nicknames, that could be reused as characters maybe? Or creating light bulb characters, I dunno xD

Personally I though a making small three-panels strips, same format as Garfield's. As of how often I would make them, I'm still not sure. 'cause I also have other comic projects for other websites, and depending how fast I work and how many comics I'm making at the same time, it could range from two issues per week to one per month.

So, tell me guys your ideas and what do you think of this!  ;D

I think that would be cool!
Shame about losing your house; please tell me you are keeping all your projects/lamps/ballasts/etc!

Oh I'm not getting rid of a single thing lighting-related, that's for sure! I just won't have access to all my collection for a while. In other words I'll have to store a good part of it in taped boxes for lack of available room for shelves. A part of my fluorescent ballasts are already stored at my cousin's place and my HID ballasts will go next weekend. I will still dumpster-dive and collect new stuff though!

Another thing I forgot, that comic is going to need a title. If you guys have ideas, tell me!

Cool idea Vince! Shame about losing your house but at least you were able to keep your lighting collection.

Looking forward to the comic!

Maybe if its once a month you could do something holiday-ish...
Like in november something with stove/oven light(s) where the turkey is cooking
December...well there's plenty of little xmas lights around LOL
July...maybe streetlights watching fireworks?
(Obviously don't know your beliefs/where you live since holidays do vary)

----
Sorry to hear about your parents divorce
Glad you are able to keep your lights collection though

Comic is good ( my drawing skills barely stay inside the lines in crayon................) and will be interesting to see Vince the Light at work.

Well here's a sort of idea I'm working on in my head at the moment:

The story could be about a certain group of lamps collecting dust in the dark corner of a century old house's basement. The comic would tell little anecdotes about them related to their life of NOS, unused lamps. With all the sorts of lamps existing, it's a virtually infinite source of inspiration! I just need some ideas for the main characters LOL.

However my situation is pretty unstable at the moment (need a job and I may move at any moment) so I'll have to wait before starting the comic, but it shouldn't take forever...
