As you all know, many municipalities in West Penn Power's area have had all of their mercury vapor and high pressure sodium street lights converted to LED's including East Deer Township and Brackenridge and just recently Duquesne Light added more wattages for LED street lights and are now available for private area lighting customers as well. This will more than likely be the death for mercury vapor lighting. Thousands of mercury vapor street lights have already been annihilated in West Penn Power's area over the past two years since they started offering LED street lights and that's what the majority of municipalities want. Duquesne Light also announced that beginning on January 1, 2019, the replacement of mercury vapor lamps, fixtures including brackets and ballasts will no longer be available and must take service under one of their other lighting options such as high pressure sodium or LED's which is kind of strange since Duquesne Light hasn't installed mercury vapor street lights since 2005 and they quit maintaining their existing mercury vapor installations in 2009 anyway. Any mercury vapor street light that needs serviced is automatically replaced with an equivalent high pressure sodium street light and their numbers are abysmal compared to what they once were. It sucks that I probably won't see too many if any mercury vapor street lights in service anywhere in the near future. I think high pressure sodium will be around for awhile though.
