As of April 2017, American Electric no longer offers a metal halide version for their largest cobrahead, the American Electric 327 Series. Now it's only available in 1000 watt high pressure sodium.

I wonder why those chose to get rid of the MH version first, I'd always though that places that would use a 1kW cobrahead would order the MH version more since you can still run 1kW MV on them and 1kW MH looks better than 1kW HPS anyway.

I would think the same thing but I know some utilities actually offer 1000W HPS cobraheads. I think NGrid does/did in New York, but never in RI or MA.

Duquesne Light has 1000 watt high pressure sodium listed in their street lighting tariffs, but they don't offer them for new installations.

And now if you want to order a 1000 watt metal halide street light, good luck unless you can find one on ebay because none of the lighting manufacturers make them anymore. I like the metal halide versions better too, but because they have a shorter life and higher maintenance costs than high pressure sodium or mercury vapor, they were never regularly used by most utility companies unless municipalities requested them.

Oh no! :( I was really hoping to order one once I got a job and my own place. I really hope they don't follow GE and discontinue metal halide on all of their lights. If that happens, the only company that will still make metal halide cobraheads is Howard Lighting.

I looked on their site and they no longer offer MH for their Powerpad lights. Only the Series 115 and 125 (drop lens and FCO) for street lights. They also discontinued their PSMH NEMA heads and NEMA bracket fixtures.

I noticed the discontinuation of MH nema heads, but not the PowerPad series. Ugh this is worse than I thought. They even discontinued it on the Durastar! :(

Yep so GE offers no more PSMH, Cooper only offers PSMH in 250W and 400W, and AEL only offers it in the 115 and 125.

To rub it in even more, if you want a white light that is going to be very bright your pretty much screwed since AEL's highest wattage LED fixture is 30,000 lumens (a bit brighter than a 250w HPS) compared to 110,000 lumens from a 1kw metal halide.

Cooper also offers 200w PSMH (a rather uncommon wattage, equal to a probe start 250w metal halide in terms of output) on some models. They also offer a full range of wattages of PSMH on the model "RC", all the way down to 50w.
