Title: Old Series Street Light Controller along Balwin St in Pittsburgh, PA
Post by: mercuryvaporrocks on October 31, 2013, 09:21:02 PM
This is an old series street light controller which powered hundreds of 400 watt mercury vapor street lights along the highway until 2005 when Duquesne Light de-energized the circuits. The old street lights were replaced with 250 watt high pressure sodium street lights which had to be wired for 120 volt parallel circuits since newer street lights are not compatible with series circuits. Overhead wiring was installed for the newer street lights since replacing the underground wiring would have been very difficult and very expensive.
