Title: USA Weekend - Saving Energy Saves Money
Post by: rjluna2 on October 01, 2011, 10:37:25 AM
Here I came across a newspaper magazine that I get from East Cobb Neighborhood newspaper:

"USA Weekend Neighbor Newspaper, September 30 – October 2, 2011

Saving energy saves money

By Jeff Wuorio

It pays to know the major energy thieves --- and stop them from doing their mischief.

Lighting. Conventional light bulbs are monumental energy burners.  Using condensed fluorescent bulbs or light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs can trim lighting cost up to 80%, Dimitris Kapsis of American Utility Management, an energy consultant company says.

Can you find one incorrect word usage on this?

These reporters know so little about lighting that they don't even know the lamp name! :8) Who the hell are they to tell us what lamps are more energy efficient when they have no idea what they're talking about. >:( They're a bunch of clueless tree huggers. :8)

residents are mad and the city is under increasing pressure to do something?
The question mark is not supposed to be there. :P

Outdated equipment is another issue. Brown says many of the city’s light fixtures have mercury in them so when they go out they can’t replace the bulbs.

“They’re mercurial cadmium lights. Mercury is a greenhouse gas. Those aren’t being made any more,” said Brown.

So many of the city’s darkened street lights can’t be repaired simply by replacing a bulb, the entire fixture has to be replaced.

That above statment is a bunch of bullsh** too. :8)

This more suitable for Israel than the US. In Israel, there are much less knowledge in modern lighting technology and energy saving than in the US.
For example: Most of the preheat PL fixtures that we had in stores in the past, were replaced by similar fixture for CFLs, which are currently LESS efficient than preheat operated PLs.
We had 2-pin PL desk lamps that replaced by CFL desk lamps, and wall mounted preheat PL fixtures that replaced by similar fixtures for CFLs.
Also, i saw so many misleading hebrew articles about CFLs, that states for example that sitting under a CFL in less than 30cm (11.81 inch) for 8 minutes, is equal to sitting under the sun for 1 hour and can cause skin cancer, which is false. Or that CFLs that dosed with a solid mercury amalgam are totally free of liquid mercury and much safer to the environment, which is also false.
There is an arabic importer from Umm al-Fahm called I. G. International Electric, that imports flea market electric and lighting stuff and they does so many misprinting.
For example: They prints the word Projector (Generic hebrew word for floodlight) as Projecteur, or their name as I. G. Inaurnational instead of I. G. International Electric.
