had a ballast kit laying around and a socket bracket back when we were doing auto zone retrofit to induction. .so I made use of it all , on the rear is the cord and switch for ignitor and the pull chain on/off
Nice! So PSMH ballasts can run PSMH, MH, and MV? I thought the arc voltage was different for PSMH or something like that. BTW, do you have any 350W PSMH ballasts?
Yeah, for regular MH they won't really start reliably since it's MV like OCV so you could just use the ignitor and switch it off after it starts up, specs are the same apparently, I've done a few setups with PSMH ballasts and MV lamps works good, and mercury lamps of higher wattage can be overdriven/underpowered by a wider range than low wattage MV without an effect.
I do have a 350W PS MH Ballast
Ah so MV works but probe start MH struggles? Does the MH ballast correctly drive the wattage-equivalent MV lamp or is it different? Ah just one 350W PSMH? (I had asked since I have six 350w PSMH highbays with lamps but they're 277V so I need to find ballasts for them. I'll probably make five 350W PSMH and one 400W MH/MV since they were originally 400W MH/MV but converted to PSMH. I have around twelve 350W PSMH lamps so i might as well find some 350W PSMH ballasts. I figured I'd ask around GoL and LG before I purchase online since they're like $35+ each. Adds up especially with shipping.
yep, don said it's the same
I'll keep you in mind if I come across any 350W ballast kits ..yours didn't have multi-tap ballasts? maybe you could fit some step down transformer into the housing? I have a little transformer but only does 150W max
Nope, they were 277V chokes with PF-correcting capacitors. According to the original label, the original M59 ballasts were 277V single tap too. A transformer wouldn't fit with the ballast in there. I actually got rid of all but one or two of the ballasts (gave them to my grandpa for scrap). The fixtures are Holophane glass Prismalumes from 1998. Thanks for keeping me in mind too.
interesting..recently i discovered that high/lowbays will sometimes only have a single voltage ballast kit, i did a project recently and they were 120V only 175W MH ballasts, the design looked diffrent too, i have also come across 5 tap ballasts and 2 tap ballasts and 480V only
