Universal 2x Slimline Ballast 806-BR-TC-P
|
A Universal 'Thero-O-Matic-X' ballast for 6-8 Foot slimline lamps.
(The Green/Yellow label version)
This is what's in the 6-foot slimline fixtures I got at an estate sale.
Kinda weird seeing one of these good old Universal's in new/perfect condition.

And it's full power and non-PCB, the best kind!
I have a yellow/blue "Watt-Reducer" version of this in three Metalux F96 strips, with 1.34a line current. Another identical Metalux has a modern Advance Mark III that's obviously a replacement, which I'm currently using with a pair of Sylvania 60w cool whites.
And I have an 80s Lithonia 2XF96 strip with an Advance full power non-PCB ballast, but I think it's capacitor is going, as is typical of 80s-90s Advance ballasts, since it doesn't like starting 60w lamps in cold at all or on MSW inverter electricity, and when they do finally light they flicker WILDLY until they warm up. I intend to replace that ballast eventually when I find a replacement.
I've got a couple 2XF96 strips where I'm assuming the capacitor is going. One has a GE 'Bonus Line' & sometimes has trounle starting both lamps - sometimes it'll just sit for awhile with only one half-on, & eventually the other will light somewhat in rapid-start fasion.
(its "extra" fixture & just sitting around so not gonna do any changes)
The other is in use in the garage & although it starts fine, lamps don't last all that long. (that I don't know what brand ballast it has, may take it apart & just swap the ballast out sometime later this spring)
@rjluna2:
I'm assuming there is, but didn't feel like going to the shed & finding a nut-driver for the odd-size nut they used.
@Mike:
I've got a couple F40 version (and a blue/yellow slimline) where the labels are sorta faded from use.
These being unused just looked so good

If it hadn't been for that box of lamps I wonldn't have even got these fixtures... I wasn't even so much after the slimlines, but the 2 F40 Agro-Lite lamps that were also in the box.
I dumped the original boxes from both the lamps & fixtures since neither was in good condition & one was wet (sitting outside & we got some rain/snow). I've never seen slimline fixtures sold as a 2-pack like these were though (ofcourse I've never seen a 6-foot fixture in a store either.)
Now I need to find a HO fixture in 2',3',4',5',6', and 7'. Can hope but I doubt I ever will (except maybe the 4) LOL
I saw the pic of the "crappy old GE 2XF96T12 Ballast" awhile back. How long do the lamps last on the garage one? And in both cases are you using 60w or 75w or both?
Yep 5' & 7' both exist, I've got HO lamps in those sizes, but have never seen the slimline version.
I believe HO actually goes in 6" increments from 18" all the way up to 10' (it doesn't exist but I'd love a 1-foot T12 HO lamp ... or think how cool a 6" would be .lol. )
@GEsoftwhite100watts: Yep it is a WattReducer
The garage one you get a year, maybe 2 ... but actual number of hours would be very little.
Standard 75w.. the garage one deff doesn't like 60w lamps. Never tried them in the GE Ballast fixture
@rjluna2:
I may still check it at a later date.
Slimlines ain't much good when its cold - like in the 20's...and totally useless (assuming they even come on) once its below zero.
