Advance Ad-Lite Ballast in Arrow Preheat Shoplight
|
Finally acquired one of these funky oddball ballasts. Despite being old and preheat, they also had some other anomalies about themselves, such as lower than normal line current apparently, and lack of a starting compensator.
As found, apparently many of these fixtures (there were several of them, I have one of them) had 34-watt lamps installed, but surpirsingly none of the ballasts cooked. This one could easily have had 34's. I think these came out of somebody's basement in like Rhode Island or Massachusetts...
Can somebody give an approximate year on this ballast?

What ever happened to the other five? I can't quite remember.
Studying the endcap on these these remind me of the ones in your relatives' basement they ended up keeping...Was the one you had burn up violently identical to this?
The one that burned up was not the same as this but the top channel was similar. The endcaps were "B" shaped to contour to the sockets and the reflector was much deeper. The ballast was a longjohn and a brick style (the size of a typical magnetic slimline ballast!) and IIRC it was "STARRING" brand or something. Had a neon green etch.
I have a few vintage fluorescent industrials, I installed the one from Mike and stashed the rest in my garage, including that massive 8' tandem F40 turret I rescued from school. The Benjamin fixture is in pretty good condition, while the CGE could use some new paint on the channel and the turret could probably get some new paint too. Will consider repainting them if I ever install them.
