Speaking of needing more space, I have so far almost filled my basement with cobra heads I really need to do something (and Im not getting rid of any thing)
Yeah I could also use some more space to store all my lamps, ballasts and fluorescents too. I have a lot of stuff that I need need to find a place for. As for my workshop, I use the workbench in the garage...
My workshop won't look like pictured anymore! I'm currently doing a complete "makeover" so to speak. In place of a part of our former counter-top that serves as a workbench, I'm going to build a new workbench from scratch! The new one should be 3 foot large by 102" long.
My workshop is always messy because my workbench is too small. With a much bigger one, it should solve the problem. The new workbench should also have a pole on which my mounting arm will be, so there's going to be a place for one of my OV-20s!
Niall: See if you can mount some of you lights ouside i.e. for security lighting. My dad helped my put my 70w PMH light on the house (it's a JB mount) and we put up two of my three fluoroescent fixtures in two rooms in my basement. I don't really have a workshop, the couch in the finished part of the basement is my work bench. I just have a little space in a corner of the unfinished part of the basement where all of my lights are crammed.
I kind of do the same thing, I have a work bench that I can use at my grandmothers house but since my lights are at my house on the other side of the city its kind of hard to do work on them, I've tried to convince my mom to let me put up one of my cobra heads over the driveway, so far she has said no
My mom says I have to make my dad do it. He has no clue what to do, he trusts me, so he lets me do it and he just hold the fixture for me while I wire it.
I know what that's like. You mentioned your grandmother's house. Your mom really can't say no because it isn't her house. But then again, maybe not a good idea. I'm actually asking my parents to let me put up one more light because I'm expecting another one for my birthday next week. I think LPS, but not sure. It will be brand new from the box. I haven't seen it yet or asked as it was origionally a surprise, but my younger cousin slipped it out. I told him I wouldn't tell anyone I knew. I can't wait though. Never had a LPS light or even seen one in person. My uncle's friend is a master electrician and I have recieved thing from him before. He's a really nice guy and I've helped him a bit too. I can't help him with wiring though, as I'm not an electrician, but I helped him with carring materials and and unpackaging items. I've also helped him find 1000Bulbs.com. Now he can lamps and stuff really cheap.
I was referring to my house not my Grandmother's, I know a master electrician as well, I have run two new circuits for my Dad in his basement and I may be running a new one for my grandmother as well, there is also a possibility that I will be installing new recessed lighting under our porch when we get new siding and soffit.
Hmm. I wouldn't be actually stringing the wiring if I were you. If something were to happen, the insurance company would not cover it as you aren't a lisenced electrician. That's why I don't work beyond the juction box. I knew you were talking about your house, but you mentioned your grandmother's house too and that is a valid place to put one if she allows it.
Actually, here anyways, as long as it is inspected and approved then the insurance company would have to pay. There are only two types of people that can legally do electrical work here, the home owner (or someone they know working for free) or and electrical contractor (yes thats right electricians can not work for a fee if they don't work for a contractor.)
i do electrical work in my house and actually had to run another few plugs for the fluorescent lights in my basement. if i ever have a doubt about something i ask my dad, however im pretty muchly a pro by now
I do electrical work in my house as well! My next project is the new wiring in the bathroom we'll soon make some renovations in. I received a 120 hrs class for residential wiring and now have a student job at a prefabricated house business, where I mainly install outlets, switches and fixtures. I work for about 10 hrs a week since late March. That makes about 240 hrs so far!
that's awesome, yeah ive completed 26 circuits in residential electrical at a technical campus. i am doing industrial with motors and control logic(relays, ect) currently
My hope is to get into line work in a few years, specifically street lighting, hopefully my contacts at some of the company's will help, I know the CEO of a street lighting contractor. I also do all of the electrical wiring and my house, my Dad's house and my grand parents houses.
