Series regulator for the 15 merc M250s The regulator is owned by SCE and supplies juice to the 15 city owned GE M250 mercs. It converts 12kw primaries to a 6.6 amp circuit, voltage varies depending on the number of working lamps, but is capable of generating thousands of volts. The PC on the crossbar is powered by the 120/240 volt secondary line, and it is connected with the internal oil switch. When the PC closes, it commands the oil switch to close and the mercs come to life, all at the same time! The street light here is a multiple 100w HPS. Keywords: American_Streetlights

A 10 kW, I calculated about 1500 volts max, 100v each. 10,000 watts div by 6.6 = 1515.

How is (or was) the wirefree device powered??? I mean those are usually rated for 120-277 volts but since those are series, this wirefree device shouldn't be connected to those streetlight setup plus if the series photocell was off, this wirefree device would be off, so how did they wire this wirefree device?

it say's that streetlight is a Multiple...isn't that how most streetlights are wired in modern times?

Jace he said the regulator was for "15 merc M250s" and then he said "the street light here is a multiple 100w HPS." So the M250R2 is 120 volt.

Gotcha.......thanks Niall!!!! I do know that they have made modern series streetlights....

It wasn't too long ago that Frederick has made those series incandescent gumballs into series HPS!

Do they still make iso ballasts for series circuits? can't seem to find info on them.

I do know series ballasts are available they are prolly special order.

I just seen a 400w MV series ballast on eBay
