Restored Powr/Module from George
Here's a GE M-250A2 Powr/Module from George. I repainted it and added a 250W MV NEMA tag. I also made a new nameplate for it too with updated info for a 250W MH/MV ballast. The door was originally a 175W MH/MV unit. I will add a 250W MH/MV ballast to this and it will be ready to install onto the M-250A2 FCO I'm getting simply by swapping the 50W HPS powr/module out for this one and changing! So I can choose whether I have low light or high light.

Low light or....................HIGH MASTS!!!!! My company can install the transformer bank for it 480 volt. We'll even set the tower. All you have to say is GO!

And as someone once said..."If the phone rings and the caller ID says DSA, don't answer it!"
streetlight98   [Feb 19, 2015 at 01:09 AM]
LOL I might need a city permit for that one lol.

Dunno if you live in an HOA but it so I bet they wouldn't like it!
Mercuryvapor123   [Feb 19, 2015 at 01:43 AM]
As long as you'r happy that's all that counts. My neighbors told me I could put a 400 watt merc. up, So you never know.
streetlight98   [Feb 19, 2015 at 02:20 AM]
HOA? Ooo 400W merc, eh? Are you gonna do it? Very Happy

Nice door! Cool
streetlight98   [Feb 19, 2015 at 02:29 AM]
Thanks Darren. Smile BTW, do you know if the M-250A2 and R2 share the same hinges? this door is originally from 2003 IIRC (have to double-check the nameplate lol) but the NEMA tag i added is a mid-90s one.
lite_lover   [Feb 19, 2015 at 03:09 AM]
Yes,they share the same hinges.
streetlight98   [Feb 19, 2015 at 07:36 PM]
Ah thanks. I was thinking they were, but it doesn't really make a difference since the A2 and R2 have different housings.
streetlight98   [Feb 19, 2015 at 07:43 PM]
BTW, does anyone have a spare M-250A2 ballast bracket? I tried mounting the 250W Advance MH ballast on the door and there's no possible way to fit it. Sad I got everything to make this a perfect OEM retrofit except for a ballast bracket lol. (I'd need the three screws that hold it in too, since I couldn't find the right screws at four places I went to unfortunately)
Mercuryvapor123   [Feb 19, 2015 at 11:09 PM]
I would like too but I think it would be overkill and possibly a little ridiculous, I'm already putting a rather large building up. If I do decide on a larger fixture it's more than likely be 150 watt HPS M4AR or if I go small M2RR, Haven't decided yet.
streetlight98   [Feb 19, 2015 at 11:51 PM]
Nah just put up a 400W MV M-400A2 FCO. Very Happy 400W MV and the neighbors are even happier. Smile OR... The M-1000! Shocked Razz Very Happy

BTW, George, I blazed a trail through the snow in my backyard and got in the shed today lol. Turns out there is no way the ballast is fitting without a bracket. I contacted GE for a part number for a M-250A2 ballast bracket so I can order one from Graybar or something since it's lot listed as a "renewal part". The ballast doesn't come close to mounting on the door with just the screws lol.
Mercuryvapor123   [Feb 20, 2015 at 12:25 AM]
I'm sure you'll get one or you could fabricate one you'r self with a couple of strips of aluminum.
streetlight98   [Feb 20, 2015 at 01:08 AM]
I'm not so sure. I thought maybe I could whip up a quick bracket with aluminum straps and then screw the straps into the fixture, holding the ballast in with tension, but the spacing between the screw hole collars on the door is too close for the ballast to fit without the coils touching. Do you think a bracket will cost a lot from Graybar? Who knows, they might not even sell the brackets separately. I wish I had a contact with the electric company. But then again, I'd go dumpster diving (literally diving into the dumpster of lights lol)
lite_lover   [Feb 20, 2015 at 02:07 AM]
I think I have the screws you need to mount the bracket, but I don't have a spare bracket. I may be able to make a duplicate bracket out of steel using the one in the fixture I have as a template.
streetlight98   [Feb 20, 2015 at 02:23 AM]
Sure, if you think you could do it that'd be great! Let me know how much it'll cost and I can send you the money (or just deduct the cost out of the shipping price for the M-400A2 if you'd rather I do that, which would probably be easier anyway). I thought maybe I could make a simple tension-held ballast bracket but it wouldn't work and my metal crafting skills aren't good lol. I can make anything out of wood but I don't have tools to work with metal.

Come to think of it, I don't know if the Advance ballast would fit the GE bracket so it would probably need dedicated holes drilled. I can give you the hole spacing for the Advance ballast tomorrow. It's got four holes. I'll post a pic tomorrow. It's from 2007 according to the capacitor.
lite_lover   [Feb 20, 2015 at 02:58 AM]
Okay, I will give it a try. The bracket has a bunch of holes in it,but who knows if any will line up,that would be great if you could let me know the hole spacing measurements. I'll take my bracket out of the fixture and remove the ballast from it to get a template started.
streetlight98   [Feb 20, 2015 at 03:33 AM]
Thanks Darren. Very Happy I will post a picture of the ballast tomorrow. It's an odd size. I think it's the same width and height as the 175W Advance but the depth is longer, so hopefully the top of the ballast won't come in contact with the upper housing. I actually don't have the fixture yet. The fixture is a 50W HPS so this door will be a second option if I want to change to 250W MV or MH.
lite_lover   [Feb 20, 2015 at 08:44 AM]
No problem Mike. Very Happy Your Advance ballast should fit,the ballast in mine is a big auto-regulator.
