The older GE M-250R1 did not have drip holes...but the ones from 1980-1985 has 2 drip holes on the door near the back of the refractor glass!
I believe GE started using the NEMA labels in 1977
Ah. My NOS M-250R1 didn't have a lens when I got it either (175W MV, 120/240V from November 1974, turing 40 years old this month!). The catalog number translates to it having a glass lens originally but I have no way of knowing which type. I decided on a deep glass since I prefer the deep glass on the R1s but I also like the shallow glass too and have a spare shallow glass to change it up a bit if I want.
On my M-250A I do not like the shallow glass at all (good thing it's got a deep glass!) and for my silver M-250R, it's got a shallow glass. For some reason I prefer the shallow glass for the M-250R, deep for the M-250A, and either one for the M-250R1 with preference towards the deep glass. I like any of the three with the round plastic GE lenses too.
