Actually FGS, one reason for "old school package" is it's more environmentally friendly....a good move!!! They can always make blisters hard to open and install a dectector alarm inside the blister and use paper that way its more environmentally friendly but hard to steal! Hehehe

These 'Tumor' lamp is acutally aesthetically modified evacuated tip style.

Is the tumor the "cold spot" for the tube? I've seen the "evacuated tip" on some larger CFLs toward the centre of the spiral as a way to provide the cold spot for vapour pressure control in the tube.

PS - they call them "blister packs" for a reason - you get a blister trying to open them.
