An LED luminaire that doesn't look like... you know
« on: May 18, 2011, 02:23:25 PM »
If you haven't seen one already, check out Holophane's new LED roadway lamp.  It's the first one I've seen that doesn't make me mutter to myself, "Well that one sucks."

Here's a link to yheir Holophane LEDgend page that has links to brochures, etc.

http://www.holophane.com/led/LEDgend/default.asp

I'm still a fan of incandescent and MV, but at least someone is making an LED lamp that doesn't look like someone stuck a piece of chome painted wood on the end of a mast arm.

I like the way LED modules are placed in the luminaire to achieve a good light distribution! Plus the fixture does look pretty good overall.

They should really accomodate a refractor for LEDs. Of all lamp types, LEDs are the ones that sure need it most. I agree that this one doesn't look bad, but I still prefer cobraheads.

The city of holyoke, Ma has installed a few for and led project. I'm not a fan of led streetlighting but pretty impressed but the amount of light they put out.

I posted something about these more than a year and a half ago, the title of the picture was "Crabby LED ;D" But I deleted the picture when we ran out of memory space. I haven't actually seen one in person.

These just recently started appearing on the "Toll Roads" network in Orange County, California. The other LED fixture used in the network are the LEDways by BetaLED which were installed about two years ago.

The Holophane LEDgends used on the Toll Roads have a much more neutral white color and a very smooth distribution pattern compared to the BetaLEDs which look bluish-purple.

LED are starting to be offered in retrofits here, but mostly the Metro is still using MH, and on main roads a mix of MH and HPS ( bulb on truck mixed willy nilly) are common. On residential roads there are still relampings with 80W mercury lamps , lower power is winning out over the high cost of the LED modules. There are a few low power LED fittings, but they are rare. City hall accent lighting is with CFL lamps ( I know.......) and the odd MH lamp.
